All signs were available that this building had serious defect but the Nigerian factor came to play in making Osibona carry on as if nothing was wrong to the tragic end of several lives and billions. When do we allow competence and professionalism prevail over ethno religious sentiments and other narrow sentiments. It was clear this building was defective from the day one. The former engineers left because they could not put the seal of their expertise as engineers on the integrity of the building. Osibona brought in engineering apprentice from Italy who have never built on a topography like Lagos. We saw the video he was praising the Italian engineers as being the best in Europe. The work that indigenous engineering firm refused to proceed with, an Italian team (I can't call those guys on the video as engineers) undertook and came down the towering building. When do we learn to trust our professionals as among the best in the world. May the souls of everyone lost in that tragic collapse rest with God. Amen
