Iker Casillas believes that Real Madrid would have beaten Manchester United in the Champions League final, and that Spain's top two sides are the best in
Europe. The Blancos were eliminated by bitter rivals Barcelona
in the semi-finals of the tournament and Pep
Guardiola's men went on to beat the Red Devils 3-1 at
Wembley last Saturday. "If Madrid had played the final of the Champions
League we would also have earned [victory] against
United," the Spanish No.1 told Sport. "I knew whoever won the Madrid-Barca semi-final
was going to win [the competition]. We are the two
strongest teams in Europe." The capital city club have started to strengthen for
next season, with the arrival of Nuri Sahin and Hamit
Altintop, and Casillas believes his side can go one step
further in 2011-12 after securing the Copa del Rey this
year "The positive aspect of the season is that we won a
title," he said. "The downside is that we have been at
the gates of two major titles, but next year [the aim] is
to get beyond the bar. Finish first in La Liga and reach
the final of the Champions League."
