HOW THE DVD PLAYER WORKS

The DVD player is a common piece of entertainment electronic found in almost all homes today, its predecessors are the CD players and the videocassette players. The CD player is basically the same as the DVD but with about 5 to 10 times less storage capacity amongst other notable differences.

HOW DOES A DISK STORE DATA
The disk is a storage media that stores data much like every other storage media, in the form of binary, that is ‘0’ and ‘1’ but in a very fascinating way. This binary digit is represented physically on the surface of the disk in the form of hills or valleys, ‘1’ is represented by a hill, and ‘0’ by a valley. The number of ‘1s’ or ‘0s’ determines how wide a specific hill or valley will be, for example, a binary code of ‘111’ will be represented by a wider hill than a binary code of ‘1’. These series of microscopic hills and valleys represent all the data stored on the disk, be it sound, pictures or text.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU INSERT A DISK INTO A DVD PLAYER
When you insert a disk into a DVD player, the disk will be accelerated by the Drive to a speed 9x the speed of a conventional CD player, a tiny but powerful leaser light will shine on the rotating disk, if the light makes contact with a hill, it will be reflected back to a photoelectric sensor that will register it as ‘1’, if the light hits a valley, no reflection will be observed hence the photoelectric sensor will register it as ‘0’. The binary information that has been read by the photoelectric sensor will be sent to the processing unit in real-time, if the data is sound, it will be sent to the speakers for production, if it’s text or image it will be sent to the screen for display. you can watch the video on youtube via this link
