obembet:
Paris Saint-Germain’s bizarre season was perhaps summed up perfectly on Wednesday night at the Stade du Moustoir.

In a dull Ligue 1 clash with Lorient, Mauricio Pochettino’s side were held to a 1-1 draw in a game that did little to suggest that the Parisian giants were firing on all cylinders.

Yet rather than Mauro Icardi’s last-minute goal or the home side’s impressive point from the match, international viewers were drawn to the French league for all the wrong reasons when one of PSG’s stars made a complete full of himself.

Sergio Ramos, in only his second league appearance of the game, was brought on at half time and lasted just 41 minutes before walking back off the pitch after receiving his second yellow card.

While the former Spain and Real Madrid captain is somewhat notorious for his ability to collect cards, Ramos’ performance did a good job of encapsulating PSG’s stuttering season. A number of stars arrived at the club in the summer to take the club to the next level, but have instead turned the French giants into a laughing stock.

PSG’s silly season of summer signings
Back at the start of the season, PSG were praised across the world for their fantastic summer business.

Lionel Messi had arrived from Barcelona, Ramos from Madrid, while Georginio Wijnaldumm and Gianluigi Donnarumma had also made the move to Paris from Liverpool and Milan respectively. All, remarkably on free transfers.

However, to date, none of the four stars has really made a great impression on Pochettino’s team.

Ramos’ contributions have already been noted, but it’s worth bearing in mind that Wijnaldum has struggled to nail down a starting spot in the side and Donnarumma has made just eight starts from the first 19 league games of the season.

Messi, unquestionably, was signed to take PSG to the next level, but with just one goal and few assists in his first 11 league games

it’s hard to truly believe that the Argentina international is taking his new job all that seriously.

Perhaps the only summer signing that does seem to be doing well is right wing-back Achraf Hakimi, who already has three goals and three assists in 18 Ligue 1 games this season. Which may be down to the simple fact that he was the only signing made in the summer that was actually needed.

PSG will still walk to another Ligue 1 title and they may yet get their house in order to challenge for the Champions League, but as things stand these new high-profile additions seem to be less of a bonus for Pochettino and far more of a burden.

Both of you have points but you don't get him.

He is saying Messi isn't totally a 'flop' since he is PSG's top scorer in the UCL with more goals than Mbappe in the UCL.
Saying they chose to ignore that.

Messi has done quite poorly in the Ligue 1 though but I have a feeling even if he scores well there it won't be highly rated. Since it's a 'farmers league'.
But let's see.

Sorry which stat will favour Ronaldo over Messi? grin grin grin

You must be drunk.

Every available stat that exists and will ever exist will always place Messi above Ronaldo.

It's funny how people only compare Ronaldo with Messi and not with the likes of Pele or Maradona who are considered all time greatest players.

Think the problem with you Ronaldo fans is the emotional affection you guys have for Ronaldo that has block your sense of reasoning. Cus the fact is glaring.

Which stat?

Between Ronaldo and messi

1.Who has the highest goal in men football
2. Who has the highest goal in the UCL
3.who has the most goals in international football
4. Who has scored in every international tournament since 2004
5. Who has the most hatricks

Yes you are right he is not in form... But Ronaldo that is in form is still trying to catch up with his goals contribution for the year.

And no other player has had a successful season than Messi this year.

I know you guys are saying all this because he is the one that set the standard. But you have to him be. He is the GOAT. cool

The topic wasn't about Ronaldo vs Messi. U people should start growing up

You are correct about PSG's project for Messi & them (PSG) not topping the group.

However that's all you're correct about. The CR7 point you made is heavily laced with bias. Why?

You never talked about his failure with Juventus UCL aspirations. Juventus barely qualified for UCL this season with him there. They were routinely outed at Round 16 UCL with the supposed Mr Champions league there. Now without him (in UCL) they topped the group (that had current winners Chelsea). You said nothing about CR7's failed project with Juventus at UCL till he left.

But here you are critical of Messi's UCL outing at PSG despite being their top UCL scorer — even while playing a game less than Mbappe.

My point : Messi's outing at PSG in League 1 has been poor. His UCL : Meh. But apply your assessments consistently NOT only when it 'favours' CR7.

Cheers.

Ronaldo was a success at juve... they finished top of the table last season and the season b4.... his goals sent them to the top of their group last season ahead of Barcelona, thays the difference.... if Messi was scoring goals and the team was relying on his goals like juve and Ronaldo, then that will b a different case... mbappe is the one giving psg success , and its evident whenever he doesn't play.... he has 16 goals and 14 assists for psg this term ... Remove Ronaldo's 31 league goals last season and they wudnt even b playing champions league, its evident this season as they are struggling bitterly, their top scorer has just 5 goals after 19 games... on the other hand, remove messi from psg and the team will not feel it as long as mbappe de ... Leave that one let him be talking in the nonsense. How can anybody say Ronaldo has better stats than Messi?
In the stats that really matter at the end of their career which is the number of trophies won Ronaldo no even near Messi back.
The only player ahead of Messi in the number of trophies won is Daniel Alves.

Messi have been quite useless in the League and they'll tell you that the coach is a bad coach,,,,if the coach was really that Bad, Mbappe won't have 16 goals and 14 assists, but since Messi can't score, Pochettino is suddenly a bad coach....Under Pochettino, Kane was banging goals anyhow, Pochettino wasn't a bad coach then, but now that Messi can't score, those Messi fans have labelled him a bad coach

What facts?

Remove CR7 goals and Juventus would not qualify for UCL?

How then did they qualify 7 straight years without CR7 before he joined?
How did they top Chelsea in their group ' without CR7's goals' this season?

When did Topping group in UCL become the prime definition for UCL success for a team like Juventus.
A team that did not fall short of quarters before CR7 came in, dropped in R16 through CR7's spell.
What statistics does that show?

Topping group or not IS not a defining UCL statistics. It's good BUT not the end.

Listen to this:

In 2018/2019,
Liverpool were 2nd in their group losing 3 games (including against 'minnows' Red star Belgrade).
PSG topped the group.

Guess what ?

Liverpool won the UEFA CL. After a glorious comeback against Barcelona — who 'topped' their group.
LFC topped their group in UCL 20/21— BUT didn't even get to the Semis. Which LFC UCL would you prefer?

In 2018/19 Barcelona & Juventus topped their groups.

Barcelona only lost 1 game in the tournament even.

See that group topping doesn't mean everything?

That's the point I'm making.
Their (Juventus) worst season without him (CR7) — R16 in 2016, was their best achievement with him in UCL.

They were finalist in 2014/15 & 2016/2017. Both times becoming runner's up.

CR7 thought he could go there in 2018 & be the difference BUT failed. Why is it hard for you to say he failed in Juventus [UCL] project. Call it.

A team that was finalist 2 times in 7 years. R16 crashing out just once. Their seasons with CR7 in UCL was as bad as their worst season without him.

If CR7 knew that diminishing returns was a possibility at Juventus, why did he go ? Isn't he Mr Champions league?

CR7 is a great player but you need to tone down
Your bias in assessing him. He achieved top international team scorer this year 2021 (great) BUT has yet failed to qualify for World cup till now!
What does that say?

He has had huge losses in EPL against LFC, MCFC, Chelsea (top teams) and you have little to say because he topped a UCL with teams like young boys, Villarreal & Atalanta? You're ridiculing C7 by your assessments you don't know.

Oga, the Mbappe you are talking about with 16goals is their Center Forward just like Ronaldo, Lewandoski and the Kane you mentioned. Can you mention 2 game in PSG where Messi operated as the CF??

Messi on 6goals and 5 assists in 15games may be considered an average stat cos its Messi but its not enough to tag him a flop in the middle of his first season.

Man City finished above PSG not because they have better players.

Do you think PSG will finish below City if Guardiola were to coach them??

Under normal circumstance, Man City should not have outplayed PSG in that manner.

It should have been a 50-50 game with the calibre of players on both sides but the Guardiola effect was a factor.

Even if Guardiola loses a match, have you ever seen any team outplaying his team from his days at Barcelona, Bayern and now Man City??

The counter attacking football Pochie plays should be for weaker teams.

I have watched PSG play under different managers. Pochie's team with better players is the worse have seen all these years.

are you Sure Copa America was 4 years tournament before Lionel Messi? You guys just churn out false statements without facts backing it
Its not like Argentina have been performing poorly all those years they didn't win ooh...... They have just been unfortunate in finals.

Its not a coincidence Argentina played 4 finals before finally winning the last edition but these Ronaldo fanboys will make it look like Juventus that made UCL Quarter finals once in the last 3years.
