North’ll Kill Petroleum Industrial Bill-ex-minority Leader by sheriffman(m): 9:46am On Jun 23, 2011
A member of the Federal House of Representatives and former Minority Leader, Hon Kawu Sumaila has said that the North will do everything possible to kill the Petroleum Industrial Bill currently before the National Assembly, adding that the content of the Bill will reduce the Northern Region of Nigeria to a state of perpetual slavery to the rest of the country.

Kawu, who stated this, on Wednesday, during the reception of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) National Chairman, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, maintained that the Petroleum Industrial Bill is ‘discriminatory and lopsided and is aimed at reducing the North to its knees’.

He noted that, “we organized a special research on the Bill and to our utter dismay; we discovered that if the Bill becomes law, a litre of petrol can sell for about N350 in the North while the same litre will go for N30 in a state like Bayelsa State. It means we would not be able to survive, we will not be able to settle two-third of our wage bills in the North’.

The member of parliament added that ‘This is a conscious effort to relegate a certain section of the country to perpetual slavery, and we have equally resolved to spill our blood to kill the Petroleum Industrial Bill for the sake of the unborn generations of the North’. Kawu who spoke to his audience in Hausa language was cheered by stalwarts of his party. He assured that the bill would never come to being, “except there is no Nigeria.”

He maintained that the current leadership of the House were being persecuted for standing up against such ‘divisive policy of the Federal Government’, adding that no amount of such intimidation would bring them to submission. Hon. Kawu hinted that already there were plans to mobilize people who share similar philosophy across the geographical spread of the country to kill the bill in the collective interest of Nigeria.

the pathetic nature of the north once again hinders real federalism. Their leaders should be ashamed that their top earner is Bayelsa oil. What happened to taking your destiny by your hands and PRODUCING something? how much oil does germany have? stop being a beggar region. shameless.

Thats Y we are calling for true federalism. Some days ago the Zamfara told us d northeren may not be able to pay the 18k min wage and yet they dont seem to have a solution to their youths who destroy all commercial activities of the Southerners which culd provide them with IGR thru their recurrent riots. They are so so dependent on d SS oil that they have failed to think out of the box.
Re: North’ll Kill Petroleum Industrial Bill-ex-minority Leader by ektbear: 10:48am On Jun 23, 2011
Isn't petrol just naturally going to be more expensive in the north anyway? It takes resources to transport it that far, doesn't it?

I suspect that they are exaggerating btw. If the PIB liberalizes the petrol market (which I guess is what will cause this price discrepancy?), I doubt that they'll be paying N350 in the North.

In any case, I don't see why the SS should have to subsidize cheap oil and petroleum products for everyone else. Isn't the massive free federal allocation enough?  undecided

Let's not be greedy, imo

The east killed civil rule through coup of 66 , the west killed merit through tribal politics, the north and the west killed Nigeria Airways , NITEL , NEPA ,
The East (ss and se) killed the banking industry. The sw killed hardwork through senseless looting, now the north wants to kill PIB and by defaul Nigeria.

Bros, What's up all the killings. and how did the SW kill hard work through senseless looting. I think the rise of 419 is what is killing hard work and not really corruption. Corruption is everywhere in the world.

Do you guys see why the north would not allow this country to split, because they benefit more from the OIL revenue than any other region.
They want to spill their blood because of PIB, but they are not ready to do anything about the almajiris in their region.
If the North owns the oil, this country would have split looooong ago.

Is there anyone who can get us a true copy of the bill as it is presently before the national assembly so that we can have a look at it here and see the contents for ourselves.
Re: North’ll Kill Petroleum Industrial Bill-ex-minority Leader by kpogede77: 1:57pm On Jun 23, 2011
the line carrying crude and petrol to kaduna is less than 50metres from where i am right now. that is how they boasted at the conference for national dialogue held in abuja during obj regime that made our rep to walk out of the conference and when the fire started burning, who suffered the most. we made a lot of money in the creek and nigerian economy almost collapse. this time around, it will be a total expulsion of northerners from our land. we don't want to be part of nigeria.

Hon. Sumaila should just go and sleep if he doesn't have anything to contribute to democracy and the process of federalism. If the North feel hard done by the Bill, Then let the North tap into their natural resources and come up with an industry bill that would be fair and favourable, It is self-centred oligarch ideas like that of Hon. Sumaila that have been nipping in the bud the potentials of the middle-belt states who unfortunately find themselves within the geographical contraption and rickety base called Northern Nigeria. The middle-belt states of Benue & Taraba, for example, have agricultural potentials that could feed the nation and pave way for foreign exchange that could sustain Naija for generations; Plateau state has Tin deposits and, hitherto, is a tourism heaven; Niger has potentials for hydro-electric power generation as well as cultivation of rice in large quantity due to the presence of the River Niger; Nasarawa state is a home of untapped and rare solid minerals; Kogi state is second to none globally in terms of steel and iron ore deposits, it is also the confluence state with potentials for hydro-electric power generation. The rest of the REAL NORTHERN STATES might seem wasted land and devoid of potentials but, they should brainstorm and look at the positive sides, They have cattles, gum arabic, millet and ground-nut, Revamp these sectors instead of scavenging and parasiting on oi. lHon. Sumaila should look at all these prospects and make a case for the overall good of Northern Nigeria (so-called) and Naija in general. LEAVE NIGER-DELTA OIL ALONE!!! Msschheeeww.

This is a good reason for his constituency to call him back.
He is part of Reps that delayed the PIB which Yaradua initiated. I believe it is good for all Nigerians since greater percentage of Nigeria's oil comes from Offshore.

Hon. Sumaila is an educated illiterate. ask Japan, South Korea, France,Germany how they maintain a viable economy with out oil in their land.
the best thing that can ever happen to Nigeria is for the parasitic north to be cut off.
the North is less educated and under develop, yet they derive pleasure in killing those that are educating there and building their economy.
Once again the Northern's are the greatest security treat for this great nation.
They don't derive any pleasure in peaceful coexistence.
Dogs hv a good sense of judgment than this abokis.

First and foremost, your first statement is wrong and evil. You cannot attribute the coup organised by a group of Majors from both the East and the West (Majority for the East) to an entire group of people. It was their individual contribution to our politics.

Again, the killing of the Banking industry, I wonder how this was done. Are you trying to point accusing fingers at the sacked CEOs because based on my knowlegde the crusader in the banking industry is meant to be held responsible for the negativity in the system being experienced at the moment. Other banking system grew most during Soludo's(an Easterner) era, even our economy grew enormously as a result of his intelliegence; and in union with the DG of NSE Ndi Okereke, we attracted the greatest investments in the Nigerian banking industry.
If you are pointing hands at the sacked CEOs, you should be aware that there were other CEOs in the foreign markets that had the same problem during the period of  financial, all bankers became greedy worldwide so do not point accusing fingers at these CEOs, they were doing what they know how to do best.
