According to the Federal Government, the $2.5 billion Dangote fertilizer plant will ensure Nigeria’s food security, and Nigeria is now Africa’s leading producer of urea.


This was revealed by Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture, during a tour of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals, as well as the Dangote Fertilizer Plant, on Sunday.

He also stated that the Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals will contribute to Nigeria’s energy security and increase exports.



During the tour, Mohammed stated, “We must not lose sight of the fact that we will not only be self-sufficient in terms of food security and energy security, but the quality of our refined products and fertilizer will be world-class.”

The Minister went on to say that, while the refinery will ensure the availability of the highest quality Euro V Grade petroleum products, the fertilizer plant will produce granulated urea that is of the highest quality and does not become sticky, causing farmers to lose value.

He stated that the 650,000 barrels per day Dangote Refinery, which is expected to be completed this year, will be a game changer in terms of job creation, GDP contribution, and environmental conservation.

“Based on what we’ve heard here today about the 650,000 barrels per day Dangote Refinery, it will be a game changer in terms of job creation once it comes online.” Today, the refinery employs 35,000 people on a daily basis.



“There will be enormous value addition that will contribute to the increase in GDP, conservation of foreign exchange because there will be no more importation of petroleum products, generation of foreign exchange through export of finished product, availability of petroleum products, thus ending petrol queues, and attraction of foreign capital investments,” the Minister said.



“Based on what we’ve heard here today about the Dangote Refinery’s 650,000 barrels per day capacity, it will be a game changer in terms of job creation once it’s operational.” On a daily basis, the refinery employs 35,000 people.



“There will be enormous value addition that will contribute to GDP growth, foreign exchange conservation because there will be no more importation of petroleum products, foreign exchange generation through export of finished product, availability of petroleum products, thus ending petrol queues, and attraction of foreign capital investments,” the Minister said.
