It’s not just the danger of this quickly escalating to a nuclear exchange. This is one that would be a very bad day for life on earth. But quite frankly Russia facing defeat at the hands of Ukraine is beyond embarrassing.

Russia sees Ukraine as southwest Russia. It is Little Russia. It is not a nation with a right to exist. It does not have its own history or culture. This is why Russian troops are burning books, destroying libraries, and denying agency to Ukrainians. This is not new. They did it during the 1920s and the Holodomor. They did it after World War Two. They did this during the time of the Tzars. They forbade the teaching of Ukrainian. It was, at best, the language of peasants. This in short is Russification.

There is a continuity of ideology from the early musings of nationality in the nineteenth century, to Alexander Dugin. Russia is deeply threatened by nationality, especially one that does not embrace being Russian first. Yes, yes, the Soviet Union pretended that it was a collection of nations. It was an empire, and an important policy originated in Moscow. The USSR was threatened by nationalities, the same way that the Tsar was, or modern-day Russian Federation.

Ukraine sees itself not just as a nation, independent of Russia. But one that’s embraced the West, and Western Values. Russia sees itself as the rightful heir to these Greco-Roman traditions. She is the third Rome, with a manifest destiny to lead the world towards the light. Whatever that light happens to be.

Therefore Ukraine defeating Russia in the field of battle is jarring. It is inconvenient. It is not supposed to happen. This is why Russia will do all it can to get the West involved. Understand, we are already involved up to our necks. It’s just not the shiny troops in the field, in the midst of high-intensity combat.

We are providing military equipment, protective equipment, intelligence. Lord knows what else, and if this stays with NATO not getting openly involved, we will not learn of any of this for decades. There is a level of secrecy and operational security that is essential here. Yes, we hear the demands from Kyiv, which are understandable. In a high-intensity conflict, you need every weapon system you can get your paws on.

What is true, is that Ukraine is defeating the Russian bear. Elite units have been greatly degraded. The Russians were supposed to win, in days. Instead, they are facing an army, fighting at home, highly motivated, and well trained. Incidentally, that is NATO training, starting in 2014.

Now there are local counter-offensives. And it is now that the threat of WMDs, including Nuclear, is higher. This is exactly what Russia is again throwing into the mix

I hope ur source is not the western media because Ukrainian armies are abandoning their units are surrendering because of lack of food and ammo it has been on for since d beginning of this week but you won’t know that or is the fact that Ukrain govt is now recruiting child fighters or killing its own people and blaming Russia?
