A young man has lost his life while swimming with his friends at a popular resort located in Makurdi, the Benue state capital.

It was gathered that the deceased who is yet-to-be named drown in the pool while swimming with other people who came for Easter celebration.

Salemgists learnt that many young men in the Makurdi area converge at the Resort called MJ resort to enjoy themselves as part of the Easter celebration.

It was unfortunate for the young man who couldn’t make it out of the pool, people at the pool rushed to save him but all efforts failed.

Eyewitnesses at the scene who expressed shock stated that this was not the first incident at the resort. A eyewitness said just last year, a fresh graduate of Benue state university identified simply as Emmanuel lost his life at the pool.

Many other visitors of the resort also expressed their scary encounters with the pool. A regular visitor at the pool said the pool is 8ft deep, he lamented that someone who has a little knowledge of swimming could easily drown.

Some years ago, in one hotel, if you get drowned and the Life guard man rescues you, you will be flogged

At pools, the depth is usually specified by the side. Just so you can know your limit.

That resort should be permanently closed.

Till today I still cannot swim. I will never forget the day Michael took me to own river inside Ayobo, Lagos. We were just 14 year olds. Michael is a very good swimmer and promised to teach me how to swim. After 5 minutes of quick practical and theory, lad told me I was good to go. Na so I deep my head and the whole of my tiny body into the water, 2 seconds later I passed out. Water don enter all my system. I woke up to see the whole community gathered on top my head. I gave up on swimming from that moment onward.

Every place with swimming pool should have a staff with CPR knowledge or no Government approval simple

MJ Resort again

My simple rule in swimming is this:

If my leg cannot torch the bottom of the pool with my nose above the water. DONT MOVE FURTHER!.

It is time for liability laws to be put in place. No certified lifeguard, no swimming pool. End of story
