Can Game-based Learning Actually Make Your Kids Smarter? by skidos2021: 8:33am On Apr 20, 2022
Learning games are a smart and fun way to generate an interest in learning in children. Here's how.
Focus and concentration are extremely important for the learning process to be successful. There are many things that we want to teach our kids from an early age so that they have a strong learning foundation. And so, we introduce a number of concepts to them like math, science, geography, world history, language, logic, etc. Teachers and educators know the right time to introduce these learnings to children. But in the midst of all this learning, the child can sometimes get overwhelmed and disinterested. We want our kids to be able to cope in school and have the chance to pursue their interests, but we can't burden them with too much academic pressure. If they fall under that pressure, they will lose interest in learning and suffer from anxiety. Stressing kids out is never the answer. So, to help them stay interested in learning, you have to spruce up the learning process. This can be done with learning games for kids. Game-based learning will revive the interest in learning in children. Because it's a game, they'll be having fun, and because they are educational games, they'll be learning too! It's a win for all.

Here's a look at the primary benefits of game-based learning:

1)  Boosting Their Self-confidence
When you're having fun and succeeding at a task, it does wonders for your self-confidence. So, when kids are playing kids learning games, enjoying them, and completing levels successfully, they feel great about themselves. This is excellent for their well being because it will lead to intellectual and social growth. When you are in a great place mentally, you treat others well and are motivated innately to keep doing better. This confidence is what gives them the courage to pursue their interests and overcome any challenges even if it seems tough.

2)  Better conceptual knowledge
For children, having a strong focus and concentrating on one thing for a long time is seemingly difficult. It's completely natural for children to get distracted, especially if they find it uninteresting. Often, parents and teachers try to teach kids various concepts out of a textbook. This will work for a bit, but if you really want them to grasp and retain what you're teaching, you've got to make it interesting. Kids learning games make the process interesting and engaging. This interest will lead to the child being able to focus on the learning for a long time, thereby increasing their conceptual knowledge.

3)  Sharpening of memory
It's a known fact that you remember things that are fun or interesting; nobody remembers dull facts. The same logic is applied while teaching kids various learning concepts. If presented in a fun way with engaging games and visual representation, they are going to retain it better. If it's simply something they read in their textbook along with many other concepts, they will need more time and effort to remember it. Children have to learn so many subjects in school - math, science, history, geography, language, and they've got to learn social and emotional skills too. For them to remember all of these things being taught, game-based learning is a great choice.

4)  Enhancing Real World Life Skills
Learning games for kids generally have a combination of theory + activity. This means that apart from teaching a learning concept, there will be an activity related to that concept so that children have an idea of how it's applied in reality. For example, when kids learn about time, there will be some fun activities and games related to time as well. Additionally, kids learning games are not only restricted to subjects learned in school; they focus on teaching other skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication, skills that are essential in the real world. Therefore, kids games are a great way to give your kids a glimpse of how learnings and concepts are applied in the real world.

5)  Better Analytical Skills
Kids games allow children to learn things that are more than just the basic concepts taught in school. Games like Sudoku and the Rubik's Cube compel children to think in multiple ways until they succeed. These skills of critical thinking and problem-solving are infused in children through game-based learning, leading to enhanced analytical skills. These are the skills that will set them apart from others as they get older. They will have a better understanding of situations and will have the ability to find creative solutions to challenges, thereby giving them an edge over other kids.

While traditional learning is still an important part of a child's development, game-based learning is soon taking priority. The sooner you jump on the wagon, the better it will be for your child. Surveys have shown that game-based learning is going to be the preferred choice of parents, teachers, and students because of its interactive, engaging, and enjoyable features. It's already seen that 81% of students are more productive when the teaching is game-based. Whether it's analytical skills or social skills, these learning games for kids are proving to be extremely effective in enhancing the holistic growth of kids.
