MONEY (DOES NOT)
ANSWER ALL THINGS

“A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all things.”
‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭10:19‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Is money the solution to all of life’s problems?

The foregoing seems to suggest so.

But then, there were many billionaires that passed on as a result of some debilitating and incurable ailments.

Their money couldn’t save them.

So really ,money doesn’t answer to all of life’s issues.

Seems the writer of Ecclesiastes doesn’t know what he’s talking about then.

Not really.

Reading the verse in context gives a better understanding.

Notice “things” in the verse is italicized.

When a word is italicized in the Bible, it means it wasn’t in the original text, but was added by the translators, either to complete a sentence or to give their own interpretation.

The original text is then:


“A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all .

This makes it clear. It’s even clearer if the “all” is replaced with “both”.


“A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth both.

There are two things that money answers to in this verse.

The feast and the wine.

So the writer is saying you need money for the feast and the wine. That is, money answers all of ‭‭these.

Without money you can’t throw a feast .

Without money you can’t buy wine.
