10. Flooding

Every rainy season, Lagos makes Aquaman proud. 99.9% of Lagos residents wish they could uproot their houses & carry somewhere else to take cover. If seeing your cars & house submerged in water could make you rip your head off, then reconsider moving to Lagos.

9. Traffic
Lagos is the only city in Nigeria where you have to be on the road by 3am in order to not be late for your 8am job. I’m not exaggerating. The traffic in Lagos is insane and not for the faint-hearted.

8. The Air Quality sucks
The air pollution in Lagos is from everywhere. From The Danfo buses with the thick black soots right in front of you to the industrial buildings all over the place to generators. Trust me when I say the air quality in Lagos is terrible.

7. Crime Rate
Lagos is reportedly one of the most violent state in the nation.
Since Lagos is the most populous city in Africa, this should be no surprise. More people, more crimes. Living in Lagos increases your chances to meet your maker earlier than originally planned.

6. Water Quality

Imagine turning on tap in the morning to make some tea only to find dirty brown water that tastes like metal. The quality of water in Lagos sucks and if you are moving anytime soon, start devising means to provide yourself with clean water.

5. Stress
All you need to do is type stress & Lagos in the twitter search bar to get all the tea. Driving is stressful, traffic is stressful, house hunting is stressful, the people are stressful. If a good quality of life matters to you, for God’s sake, Lagos is not the place.

4. Housing
Listen, the housing market in Lagos is crazy. It is actually one of the most expensive in the nation. Buying/renting houses these days would cost an arm & a leg. These crappy houses are not spacious enough to even be deserving of the prices they are sold or rented out.

3. Transport
The BRT system is subpar. Be prepared to dish out so much money for Uber and bolt. If you have a car, you have to be extra careful, Lagos drivers are insane and Lagos is famous as the #1 city with the craziest drivers and car accidents.

2. Congestion
Lagos has become a major migration destination. People are moving in everywhere from other cities in Nigeria and other African countries. Lagos is going to get more & more crowded in the coming decade so if you are not a people person, maybe Lagos is not for you.

1. Cost of living
Lagos is expensive. The average rent for a decent miniflat in lagos is 500,000 in city areas. Getting a 3 bedroom apartment in Lagos mainland now would set you back about 600-800,000 naira while on the island, prepare to pay well above 2m.

The only good thing about Lagos is perhaps the economic opportunities like jobs.
