Shireen Abu Akleh, was covering the events unfolding in Jenin, specifically an Israeli raid in the city, which is north of the occupied West Bank, when she was hit by a bullet to the head,” Ibrahim said, speaking from the Palestinian city of Ramallah.

“As you can imagine, this is a shock to the journalists who have been working with her.”

Speaking through tears, Ibrahim said Abu Akleh was a “very well respected journalist” who has been working with Al Jazeera since the beginning of the second Palestinian Intifada in 2000.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military.

Another Palestinian journalist was also shot by a live bullet in the back, the health ministry said. Ali Samoudi, who works for the Jerusalem-based Quds newspaper was reported in stable condition.

Many in Palestine and abroad took to social media to express their shock and grief.

“Israeli occupation forces assassinated our beloved journalist Shireen Abu Akleh while covering their brutality in Jenin this morning. Shireen was most prominent Palestinian journalist and a close friend,” wrote Husam Zomlot, the Palestinian ambassador to the United Kingdom.

Those who knew her described her as brave, kind and a voice of the Palestinians.

“Shireen was a brave, kind and high integrity journalist that I and millions of Palestinians grew up watching,” wrote Fadi Quran, an activist at the campaign group, Avaaz.

“Horrified to hear of Israel’s killing of Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh in Jenin! Shireen has boldly covered Israel’s aggression in Palestine for over two decades,” wrote Huwaida Arraf, a Palestinian-American activist and lawyer.

Aljazeera is extremely biased to Israel let's be sincere. I saw her body lying next to a tree it shows she was shot while she was taking cover.

It's simple, I heard they have buried her, if that's the case then it's Palestinian trying to cover something. She's christian and doesn't follow islamic burial rights. They should at least provide the bullet from the autopsy.

Not speaking for the Israelis but the Aljazeera reporters said there was no shooting in the neighborhood, that Palestinians were not shooting in that jenin neighborhood, that it was just Israelis shooting. From the body cam of an Israeli soilder I saw online, it was clear they were being shot at my militias.

That aside, I have seen a documentary on vice on Jenin in the west bank and those guys there are clearly armed. They have weapons like in gaza, difference is maybe few rockets. So for aljazeera to say that there was no shooting coming from the Palestinian camp, then it's worrying.


Now lastly, the reports said the Israelis were carrying out a raid, not a security expert but snipers operate in two ways. a sniper secures ground troops or attacks ground troops of invaders. Snipers usually take their position at higher grounds. Jenin is densely populated, so it could go both ways that Palestinians had a sniper waiting for the Israelis as they came in for raiding. So her wearing a body armour and helmet could mistake her for an Israeli soldier. The funny question then is, didn't the sniper see the press sign..... except we just want to agree it's stray bullet.

At least I could hear in one if the reports someone shouting don't shoot the messengers. Referring to the Press while the journalist was lying down.

I still believe an autopsy and investigation on that bullet will reveal the gun that shot her. But if she has been buried and the bullet discarded or not removed from her head. Then the whole world will never know the truth and of cause, blame Israel.
