If the structure was illegal the best action was done. Odumeje doesn’t need compensation, his ass was in the wrong to begin with.

Senseless waste

Is there no way that they can build canals to drain into the adjourning river Niger?

Won't that be more cost effective than destroying properties?

I truly believe that these senseless demolitions by state governors which always coincide with them assuming power is to assert their authority on the masses as the new HNIC.

Don't you think your suggestions will only promote lawlessness? If the building was in a wrong place, the right thing to do is to demolish it to pass a message across to others who may want to do the same.

How was the church an asset to Anambra state? Did you not read or see that it was built on a drainage area? We should be talking about civilization, proper infrastructural developments that would make the state greater and better for the citizens to habit and do business.

You assume without knowledge that Soludo will be a failure? I think that you will wait until eternity. Maybe you have not noticed the drastic reduction in the killings perpetrated by “unknown gunmen”. When Soludo issued the ultimatum, many of you accused him of attempting to destroy the state. What is happening presently? Your unknown gunmen are getting silenced by the minute and peace is returning to Anambra state.

For your information, we need great leaders with great minds like Soludo for a better country. We are tired of those greedy babas who loot and destroy. Soludo already had a vision of how developed Onitsha and indeed Anambra state in the next few years, before he became the governor. Please join the train of infrastructural development before it is too late.

Nigeria churches and mosque should be paying taxes.

Naaaa! NGOs dont pay taxes but what is urgently and seriously needed

1. Govt need to establish strong regulations over religious activities
2. every kobo made by a religious body (church Musque etc) should properly and completely accounted for
3. The era of religious leaders, Pastors, G.O, Imam etc having unrestricted access to the group's fund must be abolished
4. Expenses by a religious group must be as approved by the governing council/Board of Trustee of such group
5. The bodies should be audited at regular intervals and at such time as the requisite govt authority deem fit.

Most of the evils perpetrated under the umbrella of religious group in Nigeria cannot be sustained for a year in countries that have set the theme of operations and also discipline infractions.

If the govt was up to their job in the first place, those buildings won't have been erected.

To pull them down now is to me a big waste.

Building canals and enforcing stricter building codes for new developments would have sufficed

AlexReports:
Keeping to his words to restore Onitsha to its former glory, governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has started massive demolition of illegal structures in Onitsha with the demolition of Odumeje’s Church this morning.

Recall ANAMBRA PEOPLE had on the 15th of March, 2022 reported that the then governor-elect planned to remove all illegal structures and demolish buildings on flood channels in the state.

Other churches, industries, residential buildings, etc. built along flood channels like Sakamori, Nwangene stream, Otumoye and other areas would be pulled down soon. Some of the structures at Zik’s avenue, fegge , Ochanja market, Biafran market and Main market Onitsha have been penciled for demolition.

Why not just say obedient people demolished his building so that the hate and blame will be on Peter obi ? Well you might be pained to hear this but the pastor is for obi, and he willingly accepted for the building to be demolished

You don't need to encourage a wrong act. The Governor is doing what he should do provided all illegal structures are brought down.

That building shouldn’t be there. It was illegally acquired. Odumeje and those who sold the space to him should be fined heavily or prosecuted.

This is why the environment is in such a state of mess….Anybody with money and means acquires plot of reserved piece of land to build illegal structure. You just don’t build anywhere you see, if I was Soludo, I’ll fish out those who sold that plot of land and punish them.

Soludo has great vision and the man is doing well. No one has even empathised with residents in that neighbourhood who have to endure unlimited noise pollution and stress because of the church.

Welldone Soludo.

The only thing he can cash out on is the beating. But why was he trying to resist the demolition as if he just knew about it?
As for the building, Government will only demolish your building if it was built on a place that it is not supposed to be. If that is the case here, then nothing for him. If they demolish your building on legal ground, they will even be the ones to talk about payment before you sue.

There is nothing wrong in erecting structures .

Where there was no govt oversight to prevent their construction in the first place should not be transfered to property owners.

Building a canal and levying illegal buildings would have been better. Fine them and then look for a way to solve the issue. There is always a way out but resorting to making people homeless and poorer as most peoples wealth is in their landed properties will cause more pain.

Onitsha being a riverine town would not be that difficult to construct drainages .

Pure waste if you ask me. Just as I feel much pain when I see Lagos State crushing okadas. These same Okadas would have been given at spot price to an auction house with strict order that they be evacuated and disposed off outside the state.
