I was supposed to buy last year, they discouraged me saying I was too young and had to report me to my uncle.. this time around have made up my mind to buy it ...I be 21 next month, even though I leave with them that doesn't mean I can't rent my own place... but why pay rent when I have my own personal bunk separated from theirs. please all what's the legal age to own a car in nigeria?... because I spoke to a cousin who schools in in canada telling me as far as 16yrs old do have cars of their own.

please note I clothe myself
I feed myself for some time now.
I think I'm old enough and they should respect my decision.

At 21 you are not young to own a car, you are an adult. I am just 24 and can relate, take it as someone within your circle advising you.
There are factors to consider when taking some steps at this our age, you need to remember this is Nigeria and we take culture, religion and superstition seriously. Buying a car at 21 while still living with your parent is wrong in all ramifications, they don't care how you got the money, what they see is a young boy trying to fit into peer pressure.
Nigeria is not the western world, I have a friend in Canada that got his first car when he was 17 from his parent but here in Nigeria, it's extremely rare.
If you are bent on buying the car, I will advice you do it in two ways;

1. Move out from your parent house, get your own place. Their house,their rules. If they don't want you getting a car, they have their reasons and you have to obey them because you are living in their house.

2 Get the car while in their house and use it for uber/bolt. You can either tell them you work for someone and you are to remit a certain amount weekly (this means you gats dy go out everyday or use am do the uber true true) OR you get the car and look for someone you can trust to do the uber thing for you and remit to you weekly(more money coming in). When you need your car, you either call him to bring it over or come and take you to your destination.

Problem solved. NO ONE SHOULD COME FOR ME O.

No need to tell anyone you are buying it, just buy it and they can’t tell you to return it

I think you are the one who doesn't want to buy the car.

How come you have to take permission to buy it if you are earning and can afford it? If you buy the car, will they ask you to return it?

OP, at least tell us what you do for a living since you want our help, but truth be told, 21 isn't too young to own a car as long as you are from a wealthy family in Nigeria.. They are your parents and i believe they have their reasons for not letting you get a car for now even if you live with them or not. NO FORGET NA THEM BORN YOU AND UNLESS THEM NO TRAIN YOU WELL THEN YOU CAN DISOBEY THEM.

A car is a luxury not an asset

Tell them that you want to buy a land and start developing it, you will get automatic approval

So what's their alternate solution?

Would they rather give you a car to make use of instead of letting you buy one with your money, or they just love to see that you continue trekking and using cabs/buses?
