Another Premier League newcomer, Andre Villas-Boas, faces an awkward away match in his opening clash as Chelsea manager, as they travel to Stoke.

Chelsea started last season with a 6-0 thrashing of West Brom and looked title favourites after an electric opening to the campaign, and they will be looking for a similar start at Britannia Stadium on Sunday.

But Stoke have proved a bruising opponent for many down the years, especially at home, and manager Tony Pulis has added the experienced duo of Jonathan Woodgate and Matthew Upson to his squad.

Chelsea, meanwhile, will be looking for their side to finally get the best out of £50 million signing Fernando Torres, who scored just once in 18 games for his new club after signing from Liverpool in January.

why do you think people say barcelona cannot beat stoke? andreas villash-boash is perplexed: how do i beat this team? how do you beat stoke?
no creativity at all apart from the set-pieces. ordinarily, defenders are taught to rescue the ball going to result in a corner kick, play it out of touch to result to throw-in. against stoke, it's better to concede corner-kicks than their throw-ins.
