Sunshine Stars have resumed their pursuit of Nigeria Premier League leaders Dolphins after they defeated JUTH 2-0 at the weekend.

Ajani Ibrahim scored both goals in a game that was played in Ijebu Ode on Sunday.

The Akure-based side now have 63 points, one less than the leaders, but with a game in hand courtesy of their being away on continental competition duty.

It was a difficult game but I thank God we were able to win,” coach Gbenga Ogunbote told SuperSport after the game.

In the only other game of the weekend, fellow Confederation Cup campaigners Kaduna United defeated Lobi Stars 4-2 at home. This victory has moved them to seventh position on the log with 52 points and a match in hand.

The Nigerian league concludes in a few weeks with only four round of matches to go as Dolphins and Sunshine lead the pack with Warri Wolves and Kano Pillars close on their heels with 59 points each. While Dolphins are chasing a third title, Sunshine are aiming for their first ever league championship.

Am honestly impressed with sunshine stars, they have been consistent and stayed in the chasing pack for the league title, hopefully they can replicate this form away from home. Ogunbote their coach is an experienced hand in the local scene.
