Nurnberg 1-0 Augsburg

Nurnberg managed an uninspiring win against a toothless Augsburg side to edge into the top half of the Bundesliga standings.

With the game starved for chances for much of its duration, Alexander Esswein grabbed the only goal on 76 minutes after Tomas Pekhart found him in the area. The visitors were never likely to get an equaliser after that, and Nurnberg came away with their second win of the season.

Hoffenheim 1-2 Werder Bremen

Werder Bremen came back from a goal down to claim victory away to Hoffenheim, and move up to second in the Bundesliga standings. After a fairly tepid opening half-hour, the teams seemed destined to move into the interval scoreless. However, the game exploded to life on 37 minutes, when Robert Fimino gave Hoffenheim the lead. Seconds after the restart, however, Lukas Schmitz finished low into the corner to draw Bremen level.

The visitors were not finished, and snared all three points on 83 minutes after Markus Rosenburg slotted home Claudio Pizzaro’s inviting cross. Bremen are now on 9 points, level with leaders Bayern Munich but behind on goal difference.

Hamburg 3-4 Koln

An enthralling game at the Imtech Arena saw Hamburg concede twice in the last six minutes to fall at home. Mladen Petric opened the scoring for the hosts with a penalty on 11 minutes after Denis Aogo fouled Pedro Geromel in the area. Koln equalised ten minutes later through Adil Chihi, and took the lead three minutes after the interval, when Lukas Podolski broke and set up Milivoje Novakovic to score.

Hamburg continued to press and regained the lead shortly after the hour mark, with two quick-fire goals from Slobodan Rajkovic and Heung Min-Son.

However, the visitors did not appear fazed by the setback and found an equalizer six minutes from the end, Mato Jajalo setting up Christian Clemens to slot home from close range. With two minutes to go, Kevin McKenna got on the end of a set piece to send the visitors back to Cologne with an unlikely victory.

Freiburg 3-0 Wolfsburg

Freiburg picked up a comfortable victory at the Badenova Stadium to grab their first win of the new campaign. After Papiss Cisse hit the post early on, the hosts opened the scoring on the half-hour mark after Oliver Barth headed home Julian Schuster’s free-kick. Ten minutes later, they doubled their advantage through Erik Jendrisik’s simple finish to a brisk counter-attacking move.

Freiburg were not finished, and grabbed a third through Cedric Makiadi just before the hour mark. They played out the rest of the match with consummate ease, and finished with all three points.

Hannover 1-1 Mainz

Mainz got off to a flyer, netting a goal within 72 seconds of kick-off. Marco Caligiuri went on a weaving run from his own half before combining with Maxim Choupo-Moting on the edge of the Hannover box. The ball found its way to Sami Allagui, who slid in to tap his side into an early lead.

The hosts failed to get into the match, and were fortunate halfway through the first period when Mainz struck the bar twice within minutes. They paid for not finishing their chances, with Mohammed Abdellaoue finding space in the box and effortlessly beating Heinz Muller following Konstantin Rausch’s cross.

A mishit Rausch delivery almost put his side ahead shortly after the break, but to Muller’s relief, the ball struck the bar. That was as close as either side came to a winner in an even encounter which saw both teams get a deserved point.

Schalke 1-0 Borussia Monchengladbach

Schalke collected all three points thanks to a second-half goal from the evergreen Raul.

The first half was a drab affair, but after 64 minutes, the Spaniard netted the opener, drilling home with his third attempt after a game of pinball in the Monchengladbach box. The goal sprung both sides into action, with Hunterlaar narrowly missed out on connecting with Draxler’s pull-back, while Nordveit blasted one straight into Fahrmann’s body as Borussia searched for an equaliser.

In the end, Schalke were able to hold on and put a dent in Monchengladbach’s great start, to move into second place in the table.

Magath said to his players during the halftime of the Gladbach game that everyone who doesn't track when losing the ball would be fined €10k. Both strikers, Helmes and Mandzukic, had to pay the 10k.

Last week Magath tried to get rid of Helmes, but he decided to stay. Now it looks like he will be sent to the reserve team. Magath designed a special training program for him:

Magath: "When you are not good at something, you have to practice it. It's not his fault he never learned how to defend at his previous clubs."

Helmes' agent says that a global corporation like Volkswagen can't treat its employees like that. "The role of both coach and general manager apparently is too much for Magath."

Borussia Dortmund captain Sebastian Kehl has admitted he wanted to kick himself in the backside after his first-half blunder allowed Arsenal to score in the 1-1 Champions League draw.
The Gunners left Dortmund on Tuesday with a point after captain Robin van Persie scored the opening goal on 42 minutes before Borussia replacement Ivan Perisic netted an equalisier in the 88nd minute of the Group F clash.
Van Persie scored after managing to shake off his marker Kehl for Arsenal's goal and the Dortmund captain admitted he was left kicking himself in the changing room at half-time.
"I sat during the half-time break and wanted to kick myself in the arse," the 31-year-old told German daily Bild after making only his third appearance of the season following recovery from injury.
"We played well, but because of a stupid mistake from me, we fell behind.
"Thankfully, it finished in a draw."
In their next Champions League game, Dortmund are at Marseille on September 28, the same night Arsenal host Olympiakos in their next Group F match.

Nah. Spain, Germany, Holland, would all be seeded.
I think BiH can upset Portugal in the p/offs.
Re: Strictly Bundesliga by dayokanu(m): 9:00pm On Oct 13, 2011
The 2 hosts Ukraine and Poland would be seeded plus Spain and either of Holland and Germany

Currently Holland is favoured to be seeded but depending on how they rank before the grouping

Germany, Italy, England and Russia are expected to be second seeds

Rooney has been banned for the 3 games.

Does it make sense to take him to the tournament when he misses the group stages.

maybe Capello should watch the groupings before deciding

E.g If they get Spain, England, Portugal, France He might not bother
