The plush pad is located near Los Angeles and boasts eight bedrooms and 10 bathrooms but Rihanna claims the house, which she purchased in 2009, has serious structural defects which render it uninhabitable.
Her lawsuit claims that a balcony lacking proper slope and drainage has caused water to leak into several of the rooms after a rainstorm, with Rihanna saying she would not have paid for $6.9m (£4.25m) for the house if she had been aware of the problems.
The legal papers state the water damage has left the home ‘uninhabitable’.
Rihanna is suing Prudential California Realty and several companies that designed and inspected the home, with the 23-year-old claiming Landmark Design Group failed to make necessary repairs when remodelling the home.
Landmark could not be reached for comment by Associated Press, while Prudential spokeswoman Wendy Durand said the company does not comment on pending lawsuits.
