THE Prime suspect identified as Lekan Adekanbi in the murder of CBN staff, Kehinde Fatinoye, his wife and son, arrested by the Police has escaped from the Custody in Ogun State under the pretention of sickness.

After the killing of Fatinoye, his wife and their only son, the police said they had arrested Adekanbi as the prime suspect in the case.

Adekanbi was the driver of the late CBN staff until the day he was assassinated.

The Ibara police Divisional Headquarters had nabbed Adekanbi and held him in custody to aid their investigation.

On Tuesday, two policemen from Ibara division were said to have taken the suspect to a hospital after he complained of fever.

“At the hospital, Lekan was said to have pretended like he wanted to urinate and he escaped,” a source told our correspondent.

According to the source, the policemen did not handcuff the suspect, from the time he was arrested up until the time he was in the hospital.

According to sources, the suspect fled when he discovered that the domestic staff of the Fatinoyes, who was taken away by the assassins alongside their son, did not die.

He had become restless the moment he set his eyes on the domestic staff, it was learnt.

Ibara DPO removed
Meanwhile, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Ibara, Abeokuta, CSP Bernard Ediagbonya, has been removed for alleged negligence.

The DPO was removed without any posting as the command directed the most senior officer in the division to take over.

It was gathered that Ediagbonya has been ordered to resume at the police headquarters, Eleweran, with immediate effect.

Also, the officers, under whose care the suspect escaped, are facing sanctions for failing to prevent Adekanbi from running away.

The Ogun State Police Spokesman could not be reached as at the time of filing this report.

Both the DPO and the officers who took him to the hospital where he escaped should be arrested and prosecuted. When the culprit is rearrested, he should be made to face the firing squad ASAP.

Be careful with who will work close to you. It might have been a case of hatred and jealous from the driver that sent the whole family to early grave.

Nigeria needs a "police force", what we currently have now are a bunch of people willing to offer their services to the highest bidder, despite being paid from taxpayers money. This idea of redeploying police officers who commit serious crime is becoming annoying embarassed

Nigerian Police at it again. It's actually no news because this happens all the time. Its only making front page news because it's a high profile case. Our policing in this country needs complete reorientation. Na hunger and joblessness de make people enter police force nowadays.
