Igbo boys and their "Get rich or Die Trying" mentality.

Thank God they were caught in Nigeria. They can now enjoy jail time as opposed to death by hanging. Their case brings to mind a friend of mine who keeps telling me how "industrious" some of his close friends are, even though they do not have the kind of income sources that would justify their lifestyles. I think FIRS also has a role to play in the future as per determining the amount to be paid as tax to Government, and by extension, the actual income range of Nigerians. Those who live above their means should then be charged with money laundry.

This thread shouldn't be an opportunity to bash Igbos but I think Igbo's means of going about, and looking for money by 'all means' isn't ideal. I love the fact that they are chancers and won't sit in their comfort zones but desperation by all means should be curtailed. There are more innovative and less dangerous ways of making money but taking drugs to a country where DEATH SENTENCE is handed out is senseless.
Yorubas too have their demons, so are other ethnic tribes in Nigeria. I think we should all concentrate on how to deal with our demons instead of 'finger-pointing' at other tribes' faults. Yorubas have leadership problem, suffer political thuggery, and are overtly ostentatious( owanbe) lol. The collective problems that faces Yorubas should be what we should be dealing with instead of bashing other tribes.
Believe you me, I'm more worried about the state of leadership in my state than I am worried about some people pushing drugs. Besides, How many  of the Yorubas here that bash other tribes, sponsors a child back home, does charitable work, contribute meaningfully to their society back home, e.t.c.?

If Yorubas want to teach Igbos how to live their lives, we should first lead by example and maybe they might copy us.

i come to nairaland to see whats going on back home and to view the perspectives of my clan concerning such issues.

i am 33 and if the demographics of this website is say 16 to 40,naija is in deeeeeeeeep poooooooo.

i come to this website everyday and hardly has a thread gone 10 comments long before tribal sentiments come in.i use to think this was all for fun and was just a thing mischief makers did for a good laff, but after two years i am very convinced we actually hate ourselves in the entity called nigeria.

subconsciously after repeated exposure to comments here,i wouldnt date an ibo girl eventho dey always seem to be the finest of the naija lot, i even advise my ppl back home not to let out property to ibo ppl as dey wld default once the initial two years elapse.

why all this ibo bashing.i am ijebu but the bestest friends i hav made in my life and keep in touch with are ibo.could they be soooo evil as to get vilified at the slightest opportunity we had and besides how can the future of nigeria afford to be so tribalistic in 2011. na waa ooooooo.

I do not comment here, I just enjoy reading them. But, I have to say this is the most senseless comment I have read here on naira land for a very long time. Damn! Yoruba people are just too tribalistic!

Some of you are talking like Igbos are the only trouble makers in Nigeria. Boko Haram are Northerners. Yorubas have their own troubles in Europe. Were 11 of them not deported from Europe just some months ago? All of them Ade this, Olu that.

There's no Igbo, Hausa, or Yoruba problem. There's a Nigerian problem. It's a difficult logic to grasp, I understand, but soon, some of you will get there lol. Keep being tribalists. As you can see, it has gotten us so far lol.
The message is clear enough and no need for verbal, tribal tirades on this thread.Their actions are highly condemn-able and i know you agree.Do not be carried away by some persons who wait for the slightest opportunity to drag every post into tribal wars on NL as every tribe have certain ills associated with them. cheesy

let me state some thing categorically igbos remain the bravest tribe in Nigeria ,Our bravery transcends all facets of life include the good ,The Bad and the ugly.A risk a normal fear fear westerner would never try in his dream a little igbo boy will undertake without fear. When a brave man is hungry the is problem that is what is happening. If you think is easy to push drug go and try,out of hundreds that carry drugs it only a small % that is caught others are living large. So you people should stop insulting a tribe you can never match in any field.

This isn't about being brave. It's about being wise. Why would you take a risk that could lead you to your demise if something goes wrong? No beefing

Lucky! Four Nigerians Saved From Malaysia's Hangman's Noose. See Pics.

http://odili.net/news/source/2011/sep/4/310.html

Like the biblical injunction which states that 'the wages of sin is death', in Malaysia, the punishment for trafficking in hard drugs is outright death by hanging; no appeal!

Curiously, four Nigerians, Messrs Ugochukwu Emmanuel Innocent, Udeh Innocent Chukwuemeka, Olisa Kelvin Chukwuka and Mgbeajuo Alex Chigozie, perhaps, out of sheer greed or ignorance, would have added to the numbers of persons executed by hanging in the Asian country for allegedly trafficking in hard drugs.

The suspects were rounded up at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos recently having been profiled to have ingested substances that tested positive for amphetamine weighing 5.715kgs.

Ugochukwu Emmanuel who travelled with a Nigerian passport bearing Gaye Jerry, 33, wanted to board an Ethiopian Airways flight when he was found to have concealed 600 grammes of Methamphetamine in the metal handle of his luggage while Udeh Innocent Chukwuemeka, 36, hid 2kgs of similar drug in a false compartment of his bag during the screening of Qatar Airways flight.

Olisah Kelvin Chukwuka, 26, who was caught during the screening of passengers on an Egypt Air flight, ingested 1.300kg while Mgbeajuo Alex Chigozie, 31, who attempted to board an Emirate Airline, swallowed 1.815kg of Methamphetamine. All four suspects were destined for Malaysia.

Chairman of NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade while reacting to the degree of involvement of Nigerian youths in drug deals urged the youths to join the anti-drug campaigns and make the world a drug -free place.

The drug czar said, "While we celebrate the prevention of these four suspects from premature death, members of the public, particularly the youths, must make frantic efforts individually to resist drug trafficking.

Another worrisome dimension is the number of Nigerians like Gaye Jerry with foreign passports and hidden identities who are on death roll in other countries. Everybody must be actively involved in this campaign."

Sources at NDLEA intimated Crime Guard that Gaye Jerry, a native of Imo State but resides in Lagos, concealed 600 grammes in the metal handle of his luggage. The bag contained foodstuff meant to distract attention, still the drug was discovered during routine search at the luggage check desk.

Gaye, a trader who sells clothes, lived in Gambia between 2000 and 2004. Like Gaye, Udeh Innocent Chukwuemeka who is a student in Malaysia, concealed 2kgs of methamphetamine in his bag. Udeh is studying English at Edutran College at Kaula Lumpur, Malaysia.

During interrogation, he confessed that he took the risk to improve his financial status. "I got involved in drug trafficking because I need money. I am an English language student in Malaysia.

After my primary school at Central School, Nnobi, I was admitted at Madonna Commercial School also in Nnobi but I stopped in class two due to lack of fund. I also worked as a commercial motorcyclist and taxi driver in Abia State before I travelled to Malaysia in search of greener pastures. I regret my involvement," he lamented.

Outside tribal sentiments, but why are Igbos fund of misbehaving or breaking laws, and at the end they cry so loud like you are punishing them unjustly, this had to stop, of they don't cheat they will break the laws of the place, this is bad, don't disgrace the hard work of your forefathers of Igbo land
