It's is at the discretion of the company. And if they do they will find a way to share it back amongst all staff. It might not be in cash but in form of sth else

Like someone said on this thread, his company collects all the tips given to staffs for the whole year. Then in December, they use the tips to give all staff one bottle of malt each. Lol. Tips for a whole year to buy only malt grin

If you work in a company that is striving towards best practice in all ramifications tips will be an anathema.....and this is understandable.

You are paid to deliver at your duty post. Do the very best you can for the customer. If he is satisfied let him leave with an obligation to repeat the visit/purchase.

It then behoves your employer to pay so well (or at least reward you commensurate with your service delivery) that tips become unattractive for you.

My take.

What are you saying? How can you demand tips? Police don't collect tips. They extort people. Police demanding money is extortion. You do not demand tips. Tips are given to you freely for rendering a good service. Demanding money is extortion and bribery. There is a BIG difference between that and tips.
It amazes me how people don't know or understand the difference....thank you for schooling him

Back in those days when man was still very young, I worked as a jollyman with a man whom we practised the same profession then. He got a job from a big Rtd. Airforce officer and after the finish of job on a Saturday, the retired force man came to check our work and gave me a huge money then. Immediately the man left, the man who collected the job was like that money is for your day job and I was dumbfounded.

Real truth, that reminds me when am still an apprentice,I learned how to tilles house (tiller)on that faithful day,the owner of the house we're tilling came to inspect his project, then the Man see the way am working, when he's leaving he give me #500,when we close for the day works,I now asked my boss for my feeding fees because he use to give #500 whenever we work a day,he now said shebi the Man has already gave me money,I was depressed that Day,I almost cry because the thing pained me

British council and Big 4's have the bolded policy. For instance BC you dare not take a perfume as a gift.

Depends where you work. Some companies have policies regarding accepting tips, gifts from clients, customers.

If you work in healthcare: hospitals, clinics etc It’s frown upon in some places. Doctors, nurses and all health care workers are not supposed to receive gifts from patients or their relatives. Money gifts are not normally accepted. Cards, flowers, chocolates, biscuits or non alcoholic drinks are given not to individuals but to the staff desk/reception.

I want us to talk about employers and how they handle the tips given to their staffs. I was reading through a thread on front page that talked about dropping your phones before resuming work. In that thread I saw a comment that attracted my attention. The person said he/she works for GT plaza. He said it is a fast food. He said the company collects the tips given to staffs. I want us to talk about this.

Have you worked in a company where you are not allowed to accept tips?

Have you worked in a company where the company seize tips given to staffs and add it to their profit? (I think this is stealing and wickedness)

Let's talk about tips

In my experience as a manager in a fast food restaurant we had to temporarily withhold and redistribute the tips to those on that shift because some representatives practically started begging for tips from customers (some customers were not happy about it)

Also, they started fighting for who should attend to a "sure" customer publicly, something which is portraying the company in a bad image.

I can tell you for free that the company in question takes care of her staff even with payment of incentives cut across board.

When I was working as a waiter the hotel manager explained to us that any tip’s customer give you should be handover to the accountant at the end of the week all staff working in the hotel will share it equally which is a very nice idea.
He said it’s very bad when someone give you tips as a waiter or receptionist because of the service rendered to him/she you should also remember the cook, gateman, porter , room service etc contributed to make the customer happiness for him/she to give you tips .
Just because you are the only one that get close to me doesn’t mean others did not contribute which for me make sense. We all agreed to handover any tips and record it.
