A lot of small businesses do not track their expenses and income and cannot tell if they are profitable, or if they are just paying out every revenue they earn.

You can always set up Quickbooks to help you keep track of your numbers so you can tell if you are making profit or losses. Besides, if you plan to apply for grants or loans, you will need to be able to share your books with the investor.
