Manual testing is when human testers analyses the quality of a new application without using any automation tools. The aim is to find out if there are any defects or bugs, making sure the product is error-free, and check it is according to the required functional needs.

The process compares the behaviour of a software application with the desired behaviour which was described in the initial phases of the software development life cycle.

Manual testers design test cases with full test coverage, an does the one by one before beginning to verify the results. They make sure that any specified issues are passed to the development team to resolve, and then tested again.

Below are some examples where you will want manual testing compared to automated testing:

• UX and exploratory testing.
• Complicated test cases that are not efficient and sometimes not possible to automate.
• Test scenarios that are only being validated once in a while.
