Dear New Hires, Stop Coming Into Organizations With Messiah Attitude. by Rubyjade: 9:51am On Mar 30, 2023
Dear New Hires,

Stop coming into organizations with Messiah Attitude.
Most times when you hire candidates they come in like Saviour to deliver the organization from the Jaws of Thor.

When you get into an organization your first point of call is onboard, orientation, and build interactions with the people you will be working with so that you can better understand their process, systems, and people.

There would be processes and projects that the organization has in place that is perfect for their business model, don't just come in because you are hired to tell everyone they are doing it wrong that is why they hired you.

It is a very wrong mindset, and this is why some of you start having enemies from day one of entry, we are not saying don't do your job, but what job will you do really if you don't understand the process, product, and People?

Change that mindset
Copied.

Many times established process will conflict with what you already know.
All you need do is find a way to communicate what you know while accepting what you are meeting on ground.

I think new hire are different from new hire in respect to their levels of experiences.

For example, a new hire can be, new GOC, new Unit commander (Director).

In this context, are we saying they should not fix some loopholes after they have understood the process , system and people? Yes, they will, and that where the Messiah comes in.

Also, either you are good employee or bad employee, you will always have enemies.

Super op, I believe new hires come as messiahs because they wrongly believe they can solve ALL problems alone. Error. Humility should be their best friend. Great post!

I'd suggest these for the first 30 days

Day 1- Day 7: Observe, watch, and Listen profoundly (have a notebook to write)

Day 7 - Day 14: Ask questions related to your immediate department

Day 14- Day 21: Score your first wins with an amazing report or emails listing problems you've seen

Day 21- Day 30: Build your allies and team. Join a team.

Even Jesus in the Bible that knew he was the Messiah didn't come showing off that he is the Messiah.
When he was asked to perform his first miracle, he rightly said, "My time has not yet come" he was reading the room and observing... before out of respect for Mary went on to turn water into wine.
Also, He didn't start with healing the sick and raising the dead even if he could. He started with what I'd call little miracles, yet most people even at the wedding didn't know he turned the water into wine

If as a leader in a new capacity, you want to bring about a drastic change, then you may just be ready for war, that you may or may not win.
Wisdom would beg that you use it, and probably make the changes gradually.

So many rules of being an applicant/new hire.... Las Las all new applicants/Job seekers should just go about their interviews by first studying about the prospective organisation and posts they're to be interviewed for while hoping on insha Allah and God's grace.....

From the view point of an employee in a Nigerian Organisational Setting, this your view is alright...in order to avoid "stepping on toes"

From the viewpoint of an employer/entrepreneur/CEOs, this viewpoint is like telling the new intake to observe the ills/corruption/lack of enthusiasm and whathaveyou in the organisation and systematically fall in place.

It all depends on the the side your audience is taking.

What you have on ground(structure) and whatever a new hire is bringing on board(fresh ideas) are both important to the growth of the organisation.

The timing and method of approach in conveying ideas should be the discussion here.

I think it's only CEOs who are employed to shout at everybody and change the whole structure of the company.
But that CEO would have understudied that particular organisation for numerous years and knows exactly what he is doing before he is employed.
Elon Musk entered Twitter and sacked workers off. Well, later he sha said he made mistake and has lost money.
The Google man, too. Facebook man, Microsoft man... Those are the people that enter company and change things.

Re: Dear New Hires, Stop Coming Into Organizations With Messiah Attitude. by jaxxy(m): 1:11pm On Mar 30, 2023
Depends on the position ur talking about. I have not really observed the messiah attitude ure talking about and frankly speaking there's no need for it UNLESS the company is are struggling with something major and in need of a rescue and messiah. grin

There no shame in having a messiah.

2ndly unless u are talking about the overzealousness of mid level new recruits. Then I understand.
