I think u should try to continue managing ur condition, by getting used to d situation n finding ways to help protecting ur ear from loud sounds, n stop the medications, since no improvement. Things like this the body tends to recover on its own over time, ur hearing might not be like before, but it il improve, get something to cover ur ears .

I understand, my brother.
kpakpakpa:

There was a time I wear one for less than an hour and nearly went mad. I don't want to reply those suggesting hearing aids cos they don't know what is happening inside my head. If I perceive noise for just one minute, it will stay in my head for days. This I hate sound and that is one of the reasons I move to the village

So sorry to hear about your condition. I also do suffer from tinitus in my left ear. Mine occured as a result of exposure to loud music.

I could remember when it was very severe, simple sound right just be amplified in my ear and I could barely hear with my left ear. I used to cry back then.

Mine is much better now. Though still there, but I try not to get exposed to loud sounds. I can barely hear with my left ear.

And the worst part is tinitus has no cure. It's so bad because it's affecting both your ears. Just praying you find a solution.

I don't have any thread on this. But the knowledge I just shared was a result of deep research. This was due to the fact that few years ago, Tinnitus made me and some other uncomfortable. Trust me, I visited some of the best ENTs in Nigeria, I had the ear flushed, and all to no avail. What saved me was Onion, and in less than 2 weeks, my hearing was back to normal with blissful night sleep. Trust me on this!
How can one use onion for tinnitus. Kindly explain better

Now i happened to be in an unpleasant situation last twoweeks and some bad guys beat me up, i don't know the kind of evil spirit that entered them but they focused on slapping me on both ears. For some days now, i'm hearing heavy sounds in my ears like a trucks motor horn, gunshots, car break that is about to have accident etc

Even alcohol can not make me sleep for 5hrs now before i will wake up.

That is why i'm looking for a way to stop hearing completely, i'm going mad right now and i don't know what to do.

The drugs i was supposed to be taken is not of my reach because it is very cost and you can't get it near me unless i send for it in abj or jos, better still lagos.

I want to stop hearing completely.
Hmmm if I had known about ur situation earlier I would have recommended
GINKO BILOBA for you; it’s a trado-Medicine very good in curing Tinuttis and even hearing loss
It played a big role for me
Nice medication

The first one placed my on one drug called betahistine(i forget the correct spelling) for months.

The other one in abj advice i should always engage in exercise and prescribe some simple drugs

The third one told me to continue with the first drug and hope for the best.

The other one wash my ears with an unknown solution, and gave drugs too.

The last i visited suggested an operation, that i will need some test outside the country and a possible inplant in my ears which will cost millions. Lol me wey never see 200k cash for my life, that was when i gave up
The drugs and injection they gave you like chloramphenicol and genticin must have damaged your hearing mechanism. A situation known as Ototoxicity. Causing sensorineural hearing loss with attendant tinitus which can be exhausting . Listen to white noise to drown the tinnitus . It should help you sleep better

Same thing happened to my neighbour's younger sister over 10 years ago. A Doctor prescribed Chloramphenicol for her, when she had typhoid fever and that was when she could no longer hear. She was taken to the UK, and implants fixed in her ears. The whole thing wasn't funny, as she had to learn how to speak again. The implants worked anyway, but it was quite expensive.

You no understand sha. No, noise cancelling headsets won't help much. The noise is inside his head. It doesn't go away if, for example, he covers his ears with his hands or a pillow.

Eventually found that out this morning when I read about the condition and you can see that in one of my response.

This is actually a good point. The least that hospital can do is finance this guy's treatment abroad.
Vello:

My brother, I feel your pain and putting myself in your shoes, I cannot but feel strong empathy with your situation. Going forward, I think you need to look outside the country for solution. In the meantime, institute legal proceedings against the hospital and sue for damages. Hopefully you come out victorious, you'll be able to finance your treatment abroad.
My 2day old daughter was also administered strong antibiotics for almost 2 weeks until I complained that it was getting too much. A later study of my baby's case file revealed that antibiotics that should not have been administered were actually given to her but thank God she's a fighter, she's fine and bouncing today. Reason for this epistle is that hospitals get away easily with life threatening mistakes.
Please sue the hospital.

@Kpakpakpa,

I can relate because i had this problem for like a month. Different noise will be playing in my ear even when everywhere will be silent.

But It was just drugs that stopped it, that one month was hell for me

Even my husband too., his lasted for close to 6 months, shooir, doctor flushed his ears before he had peace. It waz the malaria treatment given to him at the hospital that caused it

Pele op, i hope you find solution

Humble greetings fam!

I will like to know if its possible to remove my auditory nerve or anything that can make me to stop hearing completely. I suffered a strange kind of hearing loss that comes with another condition called tinnitus

It happened since 2015 when i was admitted in a teaching hospital(doctors told me that my problem was typhoid) and treated for months. When i was about to discharged, i noticed that one of my ears was not functional which i complained immediately to the docs there told me that my condition was critical and was consequently administered hard drugs which is clearly the cause of my partial deafness and was given an appointment in 2weeks time to follow up about the new ailment. I came back home using only one ear.

After about 5days at home, i enter okada to the use an atm in town, upon reaching the bank, i joined the atm line to made my withdrawal, it was there that an old friend started talking to me that i discovered that both my ears were not functional.

You were probably inappropriately treated with an aminoglycoside, likely the cheap gentamicin when you went to the hospital and was presumably diagnosed with typhoid. Visit a teaching hospital, see an ENT specialist/neurologist, you'd be evaluated and an audiogram would be requested to ascertain the level of damage to your cochlear/auditory nerve.
It might still be amenable to therapy, depending on how long ago this started, and I think the prognosis is good if you haven't lost all hearing. However, delete that thought of wanting to remove your auditory nerve. Do you even know what that means? Worse case scenario, remove yourself from annoying auditory stimuli, and get a good set of ANC headsets

ChybuzzDD:

Many commonly used drugs have ototoxicity(ability to cause damage to the ear) as their side/adverse effects, depending on the dosage, duration of intake and the individual's genetic predisposition.

Below are some of the classes of drugs that are ototoxic and their common examples:

*Aminoglycosides(antibiotics): eg Gentamicin, etc

*Macrolides(Antibiotics): eg Erythromycin, etc

*Glycopeptide(Antibiotics): eg Vancomycin, etc

*Antimalarials: eg-Quinine, etc

*Chemotherapeutic Agents(Anti-cancer drugs): eg; Cisplatin, etc

*Analgesics(Painkillers): Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Cataflam(Diclofenac), etc

*Diuretics: eg; Frusemide(Lasix), etc.

This list is not exhaustive.
I suspect he was given either Gentamicin or Vancomycin(antibiotics) during the course of his admission.

So many drugs have deleterious side effects.

Learnt about this tinnitus when I self medicated on ibuprofen for a while due to a severe stiff neck. Hard to stop immediately I started hearing this continuous ringing in my ears. It still come and go but not severe.

Once I had this strange left chest pains, shortness of breathe and completely lost ability to cough or sneeze for over 2 months. I placed on some antibiotics and diclofenac prescribed by a doctor and I was unknowingly taking coffee too. For 3 days in a row, I'll be on my desk at the office and become very dizzy like the whole room turning in my eyes and head while I stay motionless grasping the chair. I was so afraid until a simple Google search saved me. I had to discontinue coffee immediately until I completed my medication. Visited 2 hospitals then, had x-ray and all. And imagine all these happening when I just lost 2 sisters within 3 months. I couldn't tell my family what I was passing through.

Bottomline, always know the drugs you're given and why. Ask and research about the possible side effects too. And avoid self medication by all means.

Doctors have saved and destroyed lots of lives too, like the op and my late sis via wrong blood transfusion. Yet we're stuck with them.
