Kelechi Iheanacho grabbed an assist on the final day of the season, by it was not enough to stop Leicester City from being relegated from the Premier League

Nigerian duo of Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho have suffered the ignominy of being relegated from the Premier League to the EFL Championship with Leicester City despite a win over West Ham in the last league game of the season.

While Ndidi was missing from the game against West Ham through injury, Iheanacho started and played 77 minutes, providing an assist for Harvey Barnes’ opening goal in the eventual 2-1 win.

His assist and the eventual win for Leicester on the final day were not enough to rescue their season however, as Everton’s 1-0 win over Bournemouth ensured that they finished above Leicester in the final non-relegation place in the league.

How it happened
Leicester took the lead after a tense half-hour as Harvey Barnes finished brilliantly from Iheanacho’s pass.

Going into the halftime break, Leicester were safe as Everton were still level against Bournemouth, but all that changed after the break despite the Foxes going 2-0 up.

Defender Wout Faes turned in Youri Tielemans’ freekick but his goal came five minutes after Abdoulaye Doucoure had given Everton the lead over Bournemouth and was unable to change Leicester’s outcome for the season.

Pablo Fornals scored a late consolation goal for West Ham as Leicester hung on to the three points that were ultimately too little too late to save them from the drop.
