2023 U-20 W/Cup: Flying Eagles To Face Hosts Argentina In Round Of 16

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles will take on hosts of the 2023 U-20 FIFA World Cup Argentina in the round of 16, Completesports.com reports.

The game comes up on Wednesday, May 31 inside the Estadio San Juan del Bicentenario.

The pairing was confirmed after the Flying Eagles finished as one of the third best placed teams.

After opening their campaign with wins against Dominican Republic (2-1) and Italy (2-0), the Flying Eagles lost 2-0 to Brazil in their last Group D game on Saturday.

Argentina finished top in Group A with nine points from three games.

In their first game against Uzbekistan, Argentina won 2-1, beat Guatemala 3-0 before spanking New Zealand 5-0.

The last time the Flying Eagles faced Argentina at the U-20 World Cup was in the final of the 2005 edition in the Netherlands.

A brace from Lionel Messi sealed a 2-1 win for Argentina against Nigeria.

2023 U-20 W/Cup: Brazil Maintain Dominance Over Flying Eagles With 2-0 Win

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles suffered their first defeat at the 2023 U-20 World Cup after losing 2-0 to Brazil in their final Group D game on Saturday, Completesports.com reports.

Late first half goals from Jean and Arsenal forward Marquinhos, sealed the win for Brazil.

The Flying Eagles have now lost five of their six meetings with Brazil at the U-20 World Cup, losing five and drawing one.

They went into the game against Brazil having already sealed qualification into the round of 16.

Jean broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute after heading in a corner.

Marquinhos then added the second two minutes into first half stoppage time as he finished off a swift counter attack.

In the eight minute Jude Sunday almost gave the Flying Eagles the lead but his volley came off the cross bar.

The Flying Eagles, on six points, finished as one of the third best placed teams.

Brazil, also on six points, topped the group while Italy, who defeated Dominican Republic 3-0, came second.

Meanwhile, the Flying Eagles could now face hosts Argentina or USA in the round of 16.

had it been we came second we would have played England because Italy is playing England for coming second. So between England and Argentina who do you prefer.

It was followed by a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Japan and a loss to Brazil (0-1) before beating Mexico 2-0 in the Quarter-finals. In same hope I predict ARGENTINA UNDER 20 v NIGERIA UNDER 20(1-4).
