Funny how FG have not linked Kano-Aba-PH. But linking Kano to Niger. When your own country still lack. Amachie wanted to use this project and the Transport university in Katsina to please Buhari and North so he can become president. He was close but am happy he failed.

Can this project repay even 20% of its cost in 10 years?

In continuation of the movement of ND resource to develop NE,NC and NW, they will stop more subsidies to repay for this project. God!
The main aim of the project is to create a direct gateway for citizens of Niger to get into Nigeria.

Truth!

We have epeleptic power supply, govt are building rail way..

Not just building a railway, they are building one into a hopeless country that has no prospects for Nigeria. A 400km railway tra k from PH to Sokoto has considerably more economic benefit than the nonsense they are building into Niger. We are happy to subsidize Niger transport that to subsidize intra-Nigerian transport

How do u transport the good u produce from ur so called industry or u think of selling them only in. Nigeria?

I still don't understand the business case for this railway project

That's assuming there a business case in the first place! 400km railway into the desert when they can build a 400km railway from PH to the north that can be used to transport food down south and whatever products they need up north.

After Lagos to ibadan. The east-west rail corridor should have been prioritized all the way to Portharcourt.

Abuja to Kano should be third on the list, then ibadan - ilorin-minna - Abuja

All of the people who commented above are very ignorant apart from you perhaps.

Though you are sensible in your opinion of which I agree completely with you.

The importance of the rail line to Niger cannot be overemphasized considering the fact that Niger is a landlocked country all of their imports will be routed through Nigeria to the seaport in Lagos.

Niger travelled all the way to Benin Republic for all their imports and exports. The cost to Niger is high compared to when a good rail network is available through Nigeria to Lagos seaport.

The goods will further go up North Africa.

Therefore the project is a massive gain to Nigeria.

I'm from South South precisely Rivers State so you wouldn't bring in the ethnic thing.

Our leaders do not have enough brain juice to think in that direction. Totally inept individuals.

To build common refinery don become juju.

Ajaokuta steel mill dey there. Mechanized agriculture that can feed the nation and engage thousands of workers dey there.

Let's convert it to Kano Abuja Lagos...so that our roads be free from trailers mauling the asphalt....all goods should go on rail....it will also help decongest overpopulation of Lagos to the north especially Abuja

Kano is like Lagos to northerners, including neighbouring countries like Niger and Chad. It would have make more sense if Kaduna is linked to Kano first.
But Buhari knew subsequent government might not extend the rail beyond Kano, reason he embark on Kano to Maradi which will pass through Daura.

We have epeleptic power supply, govt are building rail way..

Nigeria is currently investigating more than N2trillion in power Transmission through SIEMENS. All sectors got their deserving budget. Check the link below and try to follow Twitter handle of TCN and see the realistic infrastructure upgrade, expansion in the power Sector. Check this link for the ongoing Siemens project deal signed by Buhari:
https://nairametrics.com/2020/08/20/siemens-2-billion-power-deal-to-save-nigeria-over-1-billion-annually-fg/

I hope you are also aware of these in the power sector:

HYDRO POWER PROJECTS COMPLETED BY BUHARI ADMINISTRATION

Gurara Hydropower Project in Kaduna State - 30MW

Kashimbila Hydropower Project in Taraba State - 40MW

Dadin-Kowa Hydropower Project in Gombe State - 40MW

Zugeru hydropower- 700MW

Unless Mr Buhari has paid the contractor upfront, which I doubt happened, this project is unlikely to be completed in a long time.

The current president is not going to remove subsidy and ask people to make sacrifices only to go and dump N2 trillion in a Niger Republic project.

I just can see him do that.

What is the economic benefit of this project to our economy?

Do we have one within that connects Nigeria economic hubs? I don't think so ..it's this one leading to NIGER republic that's a priority
It's well

Racoon:
Of what economic importance is Niger Republic to Nigeria? The senseless and most useless president to ever rule this nation left the sovereign concerns of his surrogate country for his real country.

Mjshexy:

Abuja to Kano should be third on the list, then ibadan - ilorin-minna - Abuja

mrvitalis:

There is no economically this train can make sense economically... It's impossible to break even... Would never make a profit.. Never
The only viable train in Nigeria is Lagos to Abuja
Lagos to port Harcourt with branches to Onitsha ans aba... That's all
Even this one is even not sure
No other van be viable

Actually the project makes economic sense if carefully implemented.

Niger is a landlock country which until now makes more use of Benin Republic Ports than Nigeria ports because Nigeria Import duties are higher. With a train line from ports in Nigeria to Niger, they will be encouraged to use Nigeria ports more because it will be cheaper on the long run compare to using Benin republic ports with trucks for onward movement of cargoes from Benin to Niger. This cheap Train logistic solution will make Nigerian ports desirable.

2ndly, Niger just discovered more oil wells in commercial quantities, they will need a reliable transportation to move it to the ports....with availability of rail line between Niger and Nigeria, Nigeria will benefit a lot from their oil business.

So the project makes sense.
