Police arrest 53 Suspected Cultists in Edo state

Fifty-three individuals have been apprehended in Edo State for their involvement in cult-related activities, according to Mohammed Dankwara, the Commissioner of Police. The statement, issued in Benin, the state capital, urged citizens and organizations to refrain from supporting these cult groups by providing logistical assistance for their unlawful acts.

The surge in secret cult activities and violence in the state prompted the Commissioner to take action. After meeting with his management team and command tactical units, he instructed them to take to the streets, identify the cultists, and make arrests.

Acting on credible information, the command's anti-cultism, Anti-Kidnapping, and Cyber Crime Units, in collaboration with the Edo State Security Network, carried out the operation resulting in the arrests on July 13, 2023. The suspects have been thoroughly investigated, and the legal process is underway with their prosecution and detention in prison.

In the quest to combat the menace of secret cult activities and killings in the state, the Commissioner had a constructive meeting with concerned citizens. Together, they devised credible and actionable solutions, which will be executed to achieve targeted results, though the specifics were not disclosed at the moment.

A stern warning was issued to secret cult members to desist from their activities or face the consequences of leaving the state. The police remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens, and anyone engaged in criminal behavior will be brought to justice.
