Just imagining what kind of a nation's cup we'll be having come january 2012.

Egypt absent

Cameroun absent

Nigeria absent

South Africa Absent

South Africa initially thought they were through,

with the FA president going on television to congratulate the team, before finding out the bad news.

Whenever nigeria loses such crucial matches, people die.

Just wondering how many must have died after the loss to Guinea

Who cares if the big dogs are out. Naija didnt qualify, and have not won the cup for the longest out of the "big dogs". Lets stop equating our filth with others who have achieved more

Cameroon have since sacked Javier Clemente.
Egypt have also sacked Hassan Shehata and replaced him with Bob Bradley.
What is Nigeria waiting for or are we gonna keep a coach that couldn't qualify us for the Nations Cup when we've sacked coaches that have performed much better in the past?

Ivory Coast and Ghana are the biggest teams in Africa and they qualified so don't know what you guys are talking about.

I concur. CIV and Ghana are Africa's best at the moment. Cameroun is in transition. We saw this at the last world cup. South Africa have a fantastic side. They were just unlucky not to qualify.

NIGERIA? LIVING IN PURE DENIAL. Our football is in the doldrums. Funny enough, if we put in the same concerted effort that has been put into our local league that has seen at least a team always reaching the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup for the last 8 years running, we will see the national team pick up.

But the Super Eagles is a cash cow for too many people so I do not see us going anywhere.

The good side is those who plunder the nation's resources through sports ministry and NFF will not have oppurtunity to do so.

I said it earlier that I am tired of watching Nigerian teams that will give you hope at the initial time, only to cause you high BP at the end.Since we chose players with sentiment and played with sentiment too.I see that the name Nigeria is heading to the rock. One day revolution will come and Nigeria will either disintegrate or be set free.We have lost focus in every facet of life.

sia1 made a couple of mistakes , these include fielding unfit players (i.e osaze),not starting in form players(i.e musa),phony changes (ehiosun for joel),hasty third change, but we should not axe him as he brought some sense of discipline to the team which prior to now had no respect for indegineous coaches.

It is fair to say Nigeria is no longer one of the big dogs in Africa anymore.Gone were those days when we were regarded as the giant of Africa.there are no little teams in football again, this is evident of most of the teams that qualify.Let Nigeria learn from this before it becomes too late.

The big Story
CAF is in total shock that the trio Nigeria, Egypt and South Africa could not qualify for the AFCON , this has put fears in some quarters about marketing returns and TV rights.
It would be noted that for the trio in previous hostings, Nigeria has the highest viewers ratio and marketing sponsors, South Africa has the best TV network and cable , Egypt headquatered CAF and control most deals.
The next Nation Cup is predicted to be the lowest in turnover and viewers.
Source coming,

Re: 2012 Nations Cup: The Big Dogs Are All Missing by novaman: 5:49pm On Oct 10, 2011
We can kill the coaches and player but the monster has been created already. The Brazilian and Spanish best players are usually fully developed at home before they venture abroad for more money and experiences; Neymar, Kaka and Robinho are good examples.

The first step to get the players both local and foreign very committed to playing for the national team is to ensure that the match bonuses is reduced to something very minimal so that corruption will be eliminated, because players can simply share about 50% of their earnings for the coaches and their God father in the FA; they can be given their travel cost and maybe N150K or less.

We the Nigerian people must ask the state government to hand over the club to the people, so that we can develop true professional clubs.
Have over 20 serious professional clubs, it means there are over 60 players fight for one national team position with the compliments of the foreign based players who equally understand that they have to fight over 600 players for position. The day the national team players know that even to get a place on the bench is a very difficult, then we can begin to see the commitment in every player. No player will ever come to camp late because they know it would cost them their positions.

The FA and the NPL must work together to identify 4 top local coaches, who will be tasked with a duty to call up 18 players from the different clubs with a maximum 3 from each club. Every month, this 4 coaches are expected to monitor the league and pencil down some players, and on the weekend on the FA special week. On the Monday of the FA special week the selected coaches will be expected to take turns to name one player after the other, then the next day, the players are expected to report to camp early under the coaches that picked them. Friday to Sunday will be for matches and all effort must be in place to ensure that on every game, we have full capacity and the national coaches must be present.

The 4 coaches earn their pay cheque during the week of the matches, so their salary will be based on how they perform; this method will encourage coaches to work hard and scout well for the best players. Even if there are international friendly and the national needs the services of top local players the 4 coaches must continue with their task.

In doing the above, the national team coaches will have the opportunity to capitalise on the selection of these coaches to build the national team.

There are different styles of play by different continents; the FA must enter into partnership with various countries in different continents, so that for the period of the partnership a particular day or month using the FIFA free window as a guide matches between the national teams of both countries will be played; it means from the under 17 (male and female), under 20 (male and female) and the senior team (male and female). It is not too much for the FA sponsors to support the teams by providing the FA with all that is required.

Imagine our national team playing Brazil male and female teams or the German male and female teams; it will help build the quality the teams require. If we have true under aged teams go on this tour with the main team, few years from now the result will surely come.

We have to use the same method to develop the female league. I have spoken about how I feel Stationary Stores could be built and use it as a model to rebuild other club in order to have a truly professional league.

What do you think we can do, we have to act now, its a matter of emergency.
