General Abdourahamane Tchiani, leader of the Niger junta, has said the army will hand over power to the civilian government within the next three years.…

General Abdourahamane Tchiani, leader of the Niger junta, has said the army will hand over power to the civilian government within the next three years.

He stated this in a televised broadcast on Saturday night.

Tchiani spoke after meeting with a delegation of the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) led by the former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd).

General Tchiani said within a month, the junta will form a committee to study and form the new constitution of the country.

While he maintained that Niger does not want to go to war, the General said the county will defend itself if the need arises.

He, however, added that the door fir negotiation was still open.

ECOWAS is yet to react to the speech of the junta leader but Abdulsalami is expected to brief the regional bloc on the outcome of the meeting.

Meanwhile, Niger’s military-appointed prime minister, Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine, assured that the deposed president Mohamed Bazoum would be safe and unharmed.

Recall President Bola Tinubu Friday warned that impending ‘grave consequences’ should the military rulers of Niger allow Bazoum’s health to deteriorate while under house arrest.

Lamine Zeine told The New York Times that, “Nothing will happen to him, because we don’t have a tradition of violence in Niger.”

Niger’s new rulers have so far shown little flexibility and warned against an “illegal aggression”.

Meanwhile, Radio France International reported that thousands of volunteers turned out in central Niamey on Saturday answering a call to register as civilian auxiliaries who could be mobilised to support the army.

This is coming on the heels of ECOWAS force readiness to intervene in Niger ‘anytime the order is given’, after a two-day meeting of the regional bloc’s military chiefs in Accra, capital city of Ghana.

Dialogue is the answer. Talk to them more and they will probably reduce the time to about a year and six months.

Let the military purge and reset the country first before handling over

Believe the military junta at your own peril. Do you know since when the Sudanese junta has been promising a new civilian-led transitional government

Exactly what we have been telling Ebola supporters. The junta can only fix any year for new election and Bazoum will not contest. All international pressure should be geared towards making the junta bring election date closer.

It is only those that doesn't understand the meaning of sovereignty of nation that scream for war and inversion of Niger. Problem of Niger is an internal crisis in which other nations can only get involve by negotiation not stamping on their sovereign right.

If you clap and celebrate that Niger should be invaded then you should also call for a party when another nation invade your own country

After 3 years .. Good man.

By then France and their fellow colonist will have to renegotiate..

Unlike some Nigerian that will wish Nigeria to suck both the balls and arse of the colonist for crumbs .. those are the ones that fear the seperation and disintegration of the shit hole.. yet trumpet daily on how sophisticated they’re .

Lol. I thought Ebola gave one week ultimatum? Does it mean that Ebola supporters will always try to claim "winners" in everything? Can't you take a stance and stick to it even when it didn't favor you? Must you always switch over and shift goalposts? What a cowardly trait

Hopefully they should fix their country within the time frame.

The systematic bifurcation of our resources must come to an end. Every country involved in Africa plays their part in the destruction of African land and resources. That includes the Russians, Saudis, Iranians and especially the Chinese, who pretend to do well. Nigeria is the example of where the Chinese have turned the mining fields into their personal estates. They mine the gold, lithium, etc and make the people less human.

I sincerely hope that within the time frame appointed by the Nigerien military leader, the country would have been made much more better than it presently is. Hopefully income from their resources can be used to build better infrastructure and make life better for the citizens.

Niger is not the only landlocked country in the world. Europe has sixteen landlocked countries. Switzerland which is the most notable name has one of the best economies in the world. With only limestone, sand, clay, gravel and marble as their resources, water is used to fix their hydroelectric power. They have built several dams and taxation has added to made the country one of the most beautiful and sought after in the world. Look at Luxembourg. Look also at the Vatican.

That’s the same way Rawlings made Ghana what it has become today. He swept the political class aside and build the present Ghana appropriately. Nigerians go to Ghana and have some peace of mind. If the military is truly sincere and avoid corruption, they can build and hand over a better nation to a democratically election, corruption free leader.

People queueing for suicide... Lol!

Tinubu please keep pressing them with intense threats, he'll hand over in weeks. One thing is very sure here, Niger have no air defence system against any drone attack. And, the junta is very much aware that a war against ECOWAS backed not just by the West but the entire Democratic nations on earth would lead to their own death.

It was just a drone that was used to attack Gaddafi, what makes you think it can't happen to the junta who are already been watched from the sky ever since they started this.

Let him quickly transfer to a civilian. There's nobody who will still be stupid to do the wrong thing if allowed to be president. Let them leave Bazoum but use someone else as their president.

This 3 years in power is tricky. These guys wants to cash out and they want to shift the time to Nigeria's election period. I swear, they will not handover. Transition can be done in less than 8 months if they're serious.

It took them weeks to sanitise their system and remove Bazoum's Government including governors and all former government ministers and officials, and appointed a Prime Minister. If they can't handover in less than 1 year then they were not prepared for the coup. They just got up and did what they did for whatever reason they have.

Even the three years they announced will be extended indefinitely. Ebola people made all the noise with NADECO yet Abacha continued ruling for six years

They know the truth.. but power must be maintained at all cost..

Which politicians don’t know this ..

Or you think they north is stupid to be kicking against it

Walahi have you see any Yoruba man in Nigeria critics the northern elders , senators , or statemen that have gone against the willl of the Yoruba god

Yoruba dare not .. “ North” or they’re gone ..

That’s the reality.. so they use igbos to make noise

Just as druggie is using ecowas ..

Some humas are born cowards.. Shakespeare.

Death to Colonialists and their political tools! ECOWAS, France, and NATO have all enabled poverty in Africa through the corrupt elites' 'democracy'. This so-called democracy is fraudulent, leaving Africans to starve while elites feast. Death to those who promote war against the African people and their desire to liberate themselves from the extortionate grip of the white man! Africa will be free, and Nigeria is next in line - the beginning of a new era.

They should have said 1 year and
when 1 year comes, they should now
say they need a little more time. That
is the style to use to get the Western countries
on your side.☑️☑️☑️☑️

Meanwhile, the developed countries
should know that democracy in Africa
is a big sham that legalizes the enslavement
of citizens by politicians who just feed
fat at the expense of their citizens.

See what is happening in Nigeria where
appointees are just looting the country
to death while innocent citizens pay❗️❗️❗️😕😕😕
