LagosPrince: English is not the definition of nollywood knowing producers reserves the right to choose his cast. First musical recording was by a yoruba man, first movie was by a yoruba man. Decades after, we have domitila and the rest. 3 Likes 1 Share |

CSTRR: We should go to the street to count petty traders and gala hawkers or what? Poverty makes you stay and roam about in the street. All the facts including the ones from UNDP,WORLD BANK show that from the inception of Nigeria till date,Yorubas have always been the richest both in Nigeria and as Nigerians abroad. They have the highest number of professors, lawyers, doctors, engineers, real estate practitioners(an Haven for billionaires...Yorubas control almost 70% of this sector....ICT,only GLO in ICT swallows whatever you want to believe you have not to talk of Flutterwave,Esusu etc) How can you even use your petty trading to equate massive businesses owned by the Yorubas in Nigeria and abroad. Moreover, only the city of Ibadan has more infrastructures than the entire Igboland SE. It has the highest number of more than 11 GRAs and still counting in Nigeria. Please, don't be a clown. 1 Like |

HBB1: Oya what is the name of the film naaaa if the commercial motion in the 70s or 80s was done by a Yoruba man. You are even doubting yourself because you cannot even bring facts to back up what you are saying. |
Re: Yorubas Started Nollywood, Own It —Aisha Lawal, Actress And Scriptwriter by Irony1: 3:37pm On Aug 27, 2023 |
HBB1: Oga stop displaying ignorance, I dare you to mention that film by a yoruba man done either in the 70s or 80s and also mention the production company and the marketing company and also mention the number of copies sold. Also Living in Bondage started with VHS as well if you must know in 1993 exactly. |

HBB1: Lol, the reason they removed history is because of ibos, don’t just try to dig. They have a very nasty history When Oyo empire was thriving, they were still walking around naked inside bush. Have you ever wondered why they don’t have any ancient city or royals? You hear of Oyo empire, Benin empire, sokoto caliphate. Is there anything in history for Igbos? They were unorganized, uncivilized and had no organized society but were scavengers inside bush. The strong beat up the weak and eat them Evercurious 1 Like |

igwebuike01:Where are the home videos now.Does it mean that Igbos'Nollywood has died. Your analogy stinks of illiteracy. Nobody is saying that Igbos did not play a very great and laudable part in Nollywood and they are still doing that. What they are saying is that Yorubas started, created or even invented Nollywood in Nigeria. They still continue to be the best in Nollywood till date with the highest sellable and highest selling movies both in English and the local languages. You can't beat them because they are always good in what they do but not perfect. Igbos are great too only that Yorubas have always proven to be better. 4 Likes |

Irony1: Ija Ominira was made in 1979. This is from the British Film Institute. This was followed by the likes of Aye and Jayesinmi in the 80s by Hubert Ogunde. The movie industry in Nigeria was pioneered by Yorubas there's no question about it. 4 Likes 1 Share
