President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the suspension of the Import Tax Adjustment levy on specific vehicles.POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the announcement was made by Dele Alake, Special Adviser to the President, during a press conference with State House Correspondents.This decision is part of four Executive Orders signed by the President, aimed at reducing the burden of multiple taxation and creating a more favourable environment for local and foreign businesses.

Daily Trust learnt that under the new tax regime, imported vehicles with 2000cc (2 litres) to 3999cc (3.9 litres) engines will pay an additional charge known as Import Adjustment Tax (IAT) of 2 per cent of the value of the vehicle while vehicles with 4000cc (4 litres) and above engines will attract IAT of 4 per cent of their value.
The new levy is in addition to the 35 per cent import duty and 35 per cent levy being paid by vehicles importers.

@Itsrm is right; what was suspended is the additional levy that govt intend to implement and they've just changed implementation date to August. The 35% and other charges still stands and at the new crazy rate of 770.

Nevertheless, there are indications that they may remove the 15% levy that makes up the 35% to reduce the impact of the fx changes on total clearing cost.

However, in Nigeria when an increase is to be implemented by govt, it's done promptly but reduction will take more time unfortunately. The new sherif is in town - the tax collector himself

They had better remove it. The numbers I'm seeing with 771 are scary. My vehicle I cleared with 1.9m less than a year ago is now 4.05m naira.

Just imagine buying a car in June hoping to clear with 1.9m only to be quoted 4m when it arrives.
