Answers below please?

Ok, I'll start smiley - Students do not read or write enough. The standard of English in the media is generally poor. What do you think?

More atentn is nt given 2 it by students especialy science students which I also fell a victim. We tend 2 focus on our core subjects i.e maths, fmaths, phys, chem, bio etc 4getin dat without English dis subjects can nt excellently sink 2 our mental academic faculty. I bliv God will help us as well as pretending teachers who can not effectively teach d subject. Nigerian students ar goin places. Watch out! Great Nigerian students!

No read, no write - no practice.
Slang/text speak.
Wrong use of words leads to sentence with no sense.

I graduated from high school not too long ago. I had A in English, I am confident if the grade A* was possible,I would have gotten it. I sat for utmes and putmes and my lowest score in English was 80. This may sound cliche but most fail due mainly to little or no interest in reading books(novels, drama, short stories, in fact anything). My mates would query me on why I read novels and then turnaround to seek my assistance in exams. My advice would be to imbibe a reading culture from primary school and mastering a SPOKEN form of any local language also helps. Please just read anything. It's never too late. Importantly, improvement in written English positively affects your performance in other subjects. It's never a waste spending time on books.
