BENIN CITY—EDO State says it has put in place a deliberate policy to invest a significant percentage of its available resources towards the establishment of a functional, affordable and quality educational system in order to ameliorate the deteriorating and unacceptable situation in the educational sector.

Governor Oserheimen Osunbor who stated this while inaugurating the Governing Council of the Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma (AAU) said that he has embarked on intervention measures to restore the lost pride in our educational system.

“Education is the major industry of the good people of Edo State. It is in recognition of this that government decided to devote more attention to the sector by splitting the Ministry of Education into two, Ministry of Basic Education and that of Higher Education.”

“For a start, Government has increased the subvention of Ambrose Alli University from N100 million monthly to N120 million in order to motivate the workforce towards higher productivity. Also, funds have been provided to the University for the construction of the green house for the Faculty of Agriculture at the Emaudu Annex of the University.”

“Furthermore, the sum of N100 million has been released to the university to meet part of the requirements for the accreditation of the programmes run by the University. I am informed of the 48 programmes in the University currently have full accreditation. I assure you that government has put in place the necessary machineries to release an additional sum of N200 million to make the accreditation exercise smooth and successful.”

He advise the Governing Council not to unduly interfere with the day-to-day administration of the University to enable the Senate and the Vice-Chancellor have a conducive environment to do their work and move the university forward.
