MTN is an RSA based company so most of its vendors in Naija like Erickson, Microsoft, IHS and co… charge in $$ €€.. So you buy data in Naira, MTN coverts naira to USD to pay vendors.

Also, when it borrows, it borrows in $$€Rand, so it must convert Naira to those currencies in order to pay back.
