TV/celebrity turned politician, how come such people are given chance in Nigeria, but I'm concerned about his personality being a right-wing populist, I hope he won't be another Donald trump in Argentina.

We've seen them from former president of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro, Rodrigo Duterte of Philippines etc.

Congrats to him, reviving the south America's second biggest economy is a big task.
He came to campagn grounds with a chainsaw grin grin
Dude is ready to work...but lacks experience, hopefully he can listen to good advice.

I can swear with my life that the leaders of nigerians have done a charm a very strong one to silence the masses not to know the right from left, everyday the hardship keep increasing and we keep adjusting , most people have not seen food to eat, most people on nairaland can not boost of 30k on their account , and the keep supporting those who wants to destroy them.
Inflation keep rising, but income keep been stignant. How many of you can boost of quality health, don't you know the more the hardship the more your life expectancy rate reduce.. I must hustle anyhow to take my kids outside this country because the country is irredeemable.Am planning on going to france , wanna join the french legion army đŸȘ–, I think that's the best route to leave, I won't hide it from nigeria, if you are interested in leaving this country and u have passion for military, please find your way to france and joint the french legion army, after five years you will be given a citizenship, this country is not getting any better

Lose and Congratulate the winner, that's the beauty of democracy and not the politics of bitterness and greed Nigeria is playing. Congrats Mr President

That's why we need a rerun where a candidate for president must score 50% of the vote cast unlike being a president with 35% of votes cast. The majority should never be in opposition in any election a government is formed.

The new President of Argentina, Javier Milei, in his own words:

-he considers Pope Francis a “filthy leftist”

-he says that "redistributing wealth is a violent act”

-he has called climate change a “lie of socialism”

-his governing philosophy is that “you can’t give shit leftists an inch”

-he pledges to end the Central Bank of Argentina

-his view on China is that he “doesn’t cut deals with Communists”

-his views on abortion is: “When you construct on the basis of an incorrect moral principle, the result is filth. How can being able to kill other human beings be a right gained? As a liberal, I believe in the unrestricted right to life based on the defence of life, liberty and property. I defend life, biology says that life begins with conception”

-on other politicians: “Micky Mouse is the aspiration of every Argentine politician because he is a disgusting rodent whom everybody loves”

In other words, this guy is absolutely a dream come true.

Wittyness.

Congratulating the winner is the beauty of democracy when you conduct free and fair elections.
But in Nigeria we don't have free and fair elections. Our Electoral umpire, the judiciary are all branch of the ruling party. Our last presidential election, APC rigged and intimidate electorate in their stronghold, PDP did the same, even Labour party rigged in Anambra.. I don't want to mention the just concluded governorship election in Kogi, Imo and Bayelsa 😂😂😂

These are countries where the electoral system works unlike here where "steal it, snatch it and run away with it" is the order of the day with periodic sackings by a supporter of APC judiciary that plays a script written by desperate politicians who can't even defend both their academic and political credentials.

I support the full scale dollarization of the economy. The dollar should be adopted a s the country's currency.

This will ensure it can no longer print its way out its problem. It will have no choice but to embark on painful reforms like Greece was.

Adopting another country's currency has its drawback if reforms are not carried out as quickly and as deeply as possible.
While your desire for full-scale dollarization is understandable, it comes with some very big drawbacks.

The first drawback is that monetary policy will now be dictated by the USA for its own internal ends, without any regard for your local economy. This means if your domestic economy loses competitiveness against the USA, the only solution will be deflation, which is always extremely painful ( due to "stickiness" of wages and prices - https://www.investopedia.com/terms/s/sticky-wage-theory.asp ).

The second huge drawback is that your central bank can no longer act as "lender of last resort" in the event of a systemic failure (e.g. a bank run).

The IMF has put out a pretty good summary of the pros and cons if you're interested.

What will amaze you is that I accept your assertions. I 1,000% accept them but,,,,,,,,, we are talking about Argentina here.

I am sure you remember the words of Simon Kuznets, winner of the 1971 Nobel Prize in Economics, who stated there were four types of economies in the world: developed, undeveloped, Japan and Argentina.

We are talking about Argentina here. It is a well known basket case. Dollarization is the least bad option here. With high inflation and the depreciation that comes, with it, this is the best option.

The country will be forced to make savage cuts in spending. that it has long refused to do.

Yes, due to the sticky wage issue, the civil service will simply have to be slimmed down and all forms of wasteful spending cut.

It doesn't change the fact that what you said is true. I don't have much faith in dollarization due to its many cons. It too may unravel. It is still a way forward.

Yes, given Argentina's long history of failure, I can understand the appeal of giving full-scale dollarization a try. Still, one question remains: given this guy's lack of a majority in either the Senate (just 7 out of 72) or the Chamber of Deputies (just 38 of 257), how exactly is he going to get his radical policies passed? The Peronists certainly aren't going to lift a finger to help him pass an agenda that runs counter to everything they have preached and practiced since the 1940s.

This lack of congressional backing is the same reason why I thought Obi was doomed to fail, even if by some legal miracle he'd managed to turn his 3rd-place finish into a Presidential "mandate". Unless you're a dictator or the all-powerful President of France, there's only so much you can do when the politicians who control the purse-strings have every incentive to ensure you fail.

I don't think it will be a big deal.for them to dollarize their economy. It's worked well for Panama. The obvious issues is they have no control over their monetary policy. In a raising rates environment their exports will be more expensive. I agree with you on this issue.
