Blogging is not that profitable, most especially when you are after ADSENSE. Of a truth, you will be frustrated by google.
However, that does not suggest that people are not making money via google adsense. As far as I know, Iyabo Oyawale makes
at least 1000usd through google adsense monthly, and learning from her will be a blessing.

Making money ONLINE is very simple, but I NEVER invest 500,000 on any online business. I trade Forex and FLIP website
those are the TWO major business I do online. I don't care people's perspective on FX, I make minimum of 4000usd monthly
on it. But I prefer telling the house about FLIPPING as you lose nothing flipping website. Here is the business:

Buy a domain on a niche
Host the domain you bought
Get someone to install wordpress for you or you do it yourself
Write minimum of 10 articles on the niche and post on the site
Do the SEO or you outsource it to an expert
Install Google analytic on your blog
You could put adsense to make small amount of money(Our focus is not adsense)
After three or four months, of consistent traffic generation

Go to http://www.flippa.com
see it. I tell you the truth, you will make minimum of 500% ROI. Trust me.
At the moment, I have a domain I registered on flippa AUCTION. it had been
bidded for 1,200usd, and this domain was registered in August 2011.
With this, you make money with less hassle online.

PS: I am not the type that sell book for people, so don't ever think I want to
sell any book. Just a guide. Neither am I even interested at teaching people because
I have not time for that. I just feel I should divulge this to you. May the DOLLAR be with
us all,  smiley

Sites, like nairaland could be making thrice of what they recieve from adsense - if they ventured into 'selected advertising' where companies negotiate on the amount of money they would be able to pay for space.

Decide on how you are going to monetise the site, maintain and diversify by re-investing in other promising areas on the net

My question is how do i get to meet companies that are willing to put ads on my website. Also it seems quite obvious that you know much about the monetizing stuffs, i could really use some help about that. Because adsense this days are not reliable. Can you give a email? So that i can contact you or better still mine is adelekeaugustus@yahoo.com

That's a nice sum to invest in blogging and I think if channeled properly, you will be able to make up to 100% ROI within a year.
However, for a new blog, certain things are more important. For instance:

- Content. You need to pay writers to make a lot of posts for you and at about N200 per post, you can get 2500 posts on your blog.

Once you have a lot of content, you can then wait to see how it converts for your business over a period.

After Content, then other things you can do to keep running your blog is to :

- Get subscribers
- Use online advertising

N500,000 looks like a whole lot of money but im sorry to say it's not much. I have been involved online for over a decade developing web apps and marketing online, so you should pay close attention to my thots.

----
1st off all if you plan to use it all on advertising, you will be lucky to have 10,000 members (lemme break it down)
An average click on Google adwords is btw N50 - N150 (depending on the keyword, it may be alot more) and Facebook will also charge you that same fee. So at a modest going fee of N50 per click all you can have is 10,000 fans (or likes) on Facebook.

But wait a minute, Facebook charges per clicks (visit) to your group, fan page or website, not per member signup , meaning people might get to your page and not join or like or register as a member on your site #sad face#

Even at a 100% conversion rate the "huge" N500,000 can only get you 10,000 members (that's hoping you have genevieve butt naked on your registration page begging every visitor to signup or like your page).

----
Ok, lets say you want to design a decent web application (blog), you will have to be on your knees for several days to have an experienced developer create the type of web app that will drive the kind of traffic you require. (i'm not talking about our Nigerian template kings disguising as web site designers). An average intelligent website is an average of $2,500.

----
Even dedicated servers (planing on streaming videos) could eat up $100 - $300 per month

----
My Point
----
The web is not exactly as cheap as people try to make it look.

----
My advice
----
You can loose all your investment on developers, Google and Facebook (you'll just be adding to their bottom line) if you don't have a solid plan.

PS: The web money is not for everybody, you need a lot of personal knowledge to venture into it. And it doesn't end there you'll be needing ingenuity too - lots of it.

you've got money with no clue of what your doing, you need to do alot of reasearch, and if your gonna go down the blogging route, make sure you use cpa.

The best cpa network out there are peerfly, neverblue, adsensemedia and maxbounty.

you can start with $100

Get hosting from hostgator (7-8 $ /month)
domain (1.50 - 10/month)

You can hire writer from freelancer or odesk
couple of seo softwares.

Man you need to learn for atleast a month 14 hrs a day, no porn no facebook just constant learning.

Do you have a business plan? Having 30,000 fans on FB through a campaign will not help your blog if you do not have good content. How will you generate that? Do you have 2 - 3 loss leading years to dedicate to the business? Bottom line 500k is too much. Use blogger, pay for very good content, advertise a little, and tend to the little start. Unless you're NL, most bloggers don't earn more than $200 a month. Larrysun has a good point. It was also through selling my romance novels that I broke the $1000 mark. I have some blogging tips on my website, all the best.

I thank everybody for their suggestions and advices.
We have passion for Entertainment and we are hoping to build on that.

We have already started blogging,
http://www.page1magazine..com and we have 1,600 facebook fans. We get about 2,500 pageviews per day.
So we thought if we have 30, 000 fans, we cud get about 40,000 pageviews per day, that's 1.2million page views per month which will definitely attract advertisers. Our CTR for adsense will increase, chance of making money from CPM and CPA and other affiliate programs will increase. People will be tempted to by ad spaces from us.

Our Alexa ranking is currently 1.3mil, we cud jump to 100k or less

These are what we were thinking when we wanted to invest 500k on blogging(for facebook ads to add up more fans). Does this make sense or are we missing something here

Once again, thanks for ur contributions, NL is GREAT.

Mr. Globe:
Nice one. It'll be a hit or miss however. First impression matters. You need to add politics into the mix for more hits since no single sector in Nigeria pull a very high interest online. It has to be in the model of huffingtonpost. It is needed. Am a passive blogger too. If you need consultation or advice or strategy hit me on.

Trust me on this. What you are experiencing is the gospel truth. Learn from it. There is no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, so don't allow desperation to cloud your better judgement. Anyone claiming you can make a fortune out of blogging or adsense is lying. Don't let anyone fool you into buying any book claiming blogging or adsense will make you rich, because it wont.
says who?

Am I missing something? I blog all the time for FREE. I don't have to pay anyone a penny to do so. Therefore, why would one need to invest N500,000 into something everyone else does for FREE?

First off - your initial investment is to high. Did, you come up with this number through research - or did you guys just guess that it would cost such an amount.

Sites, like nairaland could be making thrice of what they recieve from adsense - if they ventured into 'selected advertising' where companies negotiate on the amount of money they would be able to pay for space.

You guys should understand, business online is very competitive - but also very cheap, if u know what u are doing. Like i said 500k is too much money. No matter what sort of blog your planning on building. Before, you start - please choose the keywords you will be willing to rank for determine how much traffic it could , send to you then decide on how much you want to put into it as a start.

Remember, every business starts by running as a loss - before the profits start rolling in. Do you have any prior experience in this? If you dont , make sure you find someone who has, and make him a partner - not a consultant. He must also, contribute money, if he does not have he - must contribute his vast experience as an adviser of sorts.

I repeat - no consultants - Nigerians go cheat u with that.

Decide on how you are going to monetise the site, maintain and diversify by re-investing in other promising areas on the net.

I currently make $100+ every month via cpa . I know what am talking bout. "5ook too much"
I want to contact you..
