Israel has never realistically, geographically or historically been European. Forget all this political affiliation with Europe. They were even enslaved in Egypt thousands of years ago.

2. You then admit that the land has been "Arab" since the 7th century AD, >1500 years AFTER the Jews have been living there, as a nation that is recorded in history.

The shields have to be destroyed in order to get to the hamas. I think hamas permitted the excuse, if you call it excuse. There is nothing like "how many innocent women and children has Hamas killed..". Israel cannot be counting how many casualties on the enemy side I n order to know if enough people have died. Israelis have goals which include to never allow Hamas have political and military power again to harm their citizens and until Hamas is destroyed, the Israelis will continue to fight in Gaza strip. There is a big lesson for any enemies of Israel that there is no light at the end of the tunnel for them. Hamas leaders have really made a terrible miscalculation this time!
