Zooposki:Aza is an ancient Edo word for reserve/store/safe. I heard it from my nan decades ago. To "gbe aza (break the safe/store/reserve)" is to break the account at the end of the year when progressive unions and Osusu groups gather money and share. It has been used in Edo since at least the time of Ogiso Obioye. More than over a thousand years. Don't let modern ethno-centrism and population politics deceive you. People can use a word from anywhere when it becomes popular. Remember Davido's mother came from Edo. Olaza is even a common name for treasurer. 14 Likes 2 Shares |
