^Ofcourse,after the strike.I can't travel in this heat.lolz

Can we decide on or is it possible to ascertain the amount/level of 'small help' we'd be able to offer without a physical visit atleast?Would everyone(executive and indeed al NLDers(the sponsors) be comfortable with helping based on what we've read on here

actually, after my initial calculation, i was of the personal opinion that N100k from us would act as palliative even if we cannot subsidize the huge budget.

Since our able Nairalanders have refused to agree with my subtle suggestions to call things off, i guess we need to ask her what her immediate pressing needs are.

- someone initially mentioned internet access

- theres also N10k monthly for meds x 3 to 6 months while we organize

- she also needs immediate orthopedic treatment for a broken leg

- any other suggestions?

I'm cool with your suggestions, providing internet access plus the monthly meds but the question is,should we do that before or after visiting her ?

All the same,we have to wait for the other members to come on board.

Yamakuza, i agree with you, because i don't think we can meet all her financial needs, in regards to the fees, travelling expenses and other things, lets hear from her, how much she really needs, then we can come up with how much we can contribute to assist her and any other medical assistance that can be of major help to her.

reading between the lines, she has no concrete idea how much she really needs.

She has an idea of what she wants/needs, but putting a figure on it appears to be beyond her at the moment.

Dont know when next she's coming online but by reading her posts through her profile, i believe we can identify the things we can do and then put a figure on them.

Otherwise, we set a figure and she manages that?

I think that we shouldn't overlook the fact that she is looking for expertise as much as she is looking for finance. Hence, particularly for those with contacts in Nigeria, is it possible to find a doctor who can give detailed expert advice on her case and probably refer her to somewhere she can get proper treatment at reasonable cost.
Re: Nairaland Charity Organisation- E-Helpers Network by r231(m): 9:50pm On Jan 12, 2012
Thanks guys for all your effort as usual

I know that I have a great team that I can count on.

Well I am on vacation outside of the country and can't really do much from here but will be bck over the weekend and I will call Ify first thing.

@maclatunji

we have the case and we have a procedure as well. I am not trying to disrespect you or anything but can you pls let us handle it from here as the team knows what they need to do already. We will be updating the thread as it goes and if we need any suggestions, we will ask.
Re: Nairaland Charity Organisation- E-Helpers Network by maclatunji: 10:19pm On Jan 12, 2012
^Without bitterness, I think that is a good idea and I agree.

while the board is deliberating, does she have a dedicated thread for her treatment so we dont clutter this place?

There is evidence on Google to suggest that Ketamine treatment is available at Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu and Dept of Medical Rehab, OAU so she might not need to travel out every 6 months after her surgery.

The hip replacement surgery is also available locally according to a Nairalander, whose brother-in-law opted to do his in the UK after the person who went in before him didnt survive.

How come the doctors at LUTH didnt recommend local options?

Thank you all, very impressive how you all have shown concern, We are all in this together. I will be following the thread more closely now to see where i can be of help while we wait for the exco decision and further directives.

Main while, i suggest the exco check on a (very popular on the romance section) nairalander with user name 'pdude' for expect advice or referal.

Thank you all once more. Am overwhelm by your love and support.

"Ketamine treatment is available at Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu and Dept of Medical Rehab, OAU so she might not need to travel out every 6 months after her surgery".

really? wonderful but I hope they know what they are doing sha. Please help with their email or phone number

in India the fees I got for hip surgery was  between 7,500 to 9,500 dollars. just for that alone. all tests. MRI, scans, accommodation, etc are not included. that was why I put $15,000 (India) - $50,000 (U.S.A) minus other things like visa fee, etc in some of my posts.
one doctor here suggested AIMS and Apollo hospitals in India as the best but I emailed others too. The others said U.K, Europe or America. I haven't emailed abroad about my right femur because I pray that I can at least do that here and not pay for two surgeries abroad. If not for lack of funds, etc, I like to have plan A, B, C. sighsssssssss

If they can do both legs in Nigeria and RSD/CRSP/Ketamin, it would be far cheaper and affordable, I think. I will be so glad. when I went to LUTH, no bones were broken yet, just stiffness in my left leg, little jerking, it felt like something was moving inside my foot which was so painful (they later discovered that it was my restless veins), spasms, lots of pains, loss of appetite, no sleep (cried throughout the night, valium wasn't even working in my system back then but it does help with other meds now).

using cotton wool to touch my left leg then was so painful (as light as a cotton wool). I went for MRI only which cost over 80,000 naira. IMO they did not do a good job which I explained in the suicide thread. I did not go back after that, which was 2008

three of the best orthopedics here (they have their private clinics but 2 works in public/federal hospitals too) refused to do my hip because of my symptoms which I stated above. there is a teaching hospital here too but the strikes and fuel crisis dey disturb sha

when anyone is ready to come over to see me, my doctors, physiotherapists, medical report, etc, just let me know. there is an edo forum on NL. someone there maybe close by. like Ify stated: "and of course NOT to be displayed online/general consumption". did I miss or leave out anything else?

oh and about d dedicated thread and clutter, i have RSD/CRSP thread, maybe we can use that, but people hardly came there to post or comment. i will put link soon or the suicide thread is there too. you prefer to open another?

i've mailed the OAUTHC contacts to maclatunji.

When you send us pictures and we have your email address, we can also communicate with you.

India Hip Surgery: $15k

so the LUTH referral isnt recent? It was as at 2008?

how can/will you fly without local operation?

Do you have people in Lagos, Ife or Enugu?

you are yet to list your immediate urgent needs.
Re: Nairaland Charity Organisation- E-Helpers Network by ifyalways(f): 9:48am On Jan 13, 2012
Last year, our own Dr. Segun Abudu was in Nigeria in collab. with Lagoon hospital,Apapa for a lunch and learn programme and he did performed subsisied surgeries on some of the patients that attended.
Dr Segun is a consultant Orthopedic Surgeon @ Royal Orthopedic hospital,Birminghan. He specialises in major joint reconstructive surgery and Orthopedic Oncology.
@Perx,have u been to the lagoon hospital? We can send a copy of your docs/case to them, one never can tell when next they'd be organising the next lunch and learn programme.

We are also trying to reach Dr. Kabir Abubakar of NOH,Kano, the health minister and Action health incorporated(An NGO that majors in Health issues)

Btw,I found you the Doctors without borders addres in Yenagoa.I just hope they are still there ? 4 imgbi road,Amarata.Yenagoa. email is msfh-yen@phca.linkserve.com.

You can start by sending them an email first till hopefully when we'd get someone to confirm if they are still existing.
Re: Nairaland Charity Organisation- E-Helpers Network by ifyalways(f): 9:59am On Jan 13, 2012
Perx, while we wait for the Nationwide strike to be called off,can you send us a mail to nairalandcharity@gmail.com.The mail should contain:
Your location in Edo state ie City, not neccessarily address yet.and contact phone number.

A list of your little but important immediate needs.

If available, copies of your doctors reports,x-rays,photos,medical history etc.

We'd be needing the last items(medical reports etc) for the emails we'd be sending out pending when we'd visit you and agree on when and how to start the physical campaign.

Stay strong.

Didn't realise there's a new case, hadn't read the thread in ages.

Perx, i empathise with you and hope the charity will be able to provide some aid.

@ New Case
We can always help with a short term cover of perx's prescription cost
We can probably help pay for advert in the paper or TV to raise awareness of her plight

Rich brother forming hustler moves grin did u get my update? I got two-thirds back as gesture of goodwill after a barrage of emails and phone calls from both parties and been riding crude ever since.

Re: Nairaland Charity Organisation- E-Helpers Network by perx(f): 1:42pm On Jan 13, 2012
No I have not heard of lagoon hospital before

maclatunji has my email already but I will still email you guys

yes LUTH was in 2008 but I have other ones. My condition was not as bad as this so all they said I needed back then was only physio which I explained on NL before

how can/will you fly without local operation?if I understand you correctly, it would be difficult and painful but I think a good bus will do by occupying more seats to get to d airport that is if both legs are still broken and not fixed in Nigeria. I was able to travel on bus and local plane (once from lagos to Edo) when only my left leg was affected but someone went with me. i used to occupy only 1 seat, front seat preferably but I think it is harrrrrd to do that now

flight/airplane would be telling them before hand that I am a wheelchair user with an escort or attendant. I have a wheelchair but I would like to fix something extra on it especially for my right leg. I think the airlines know what to do with people in similar or worse conditions.

Do you have people in Lagos, Ife or Enugu?
no i don't have any in Ife or Enugu but i do have some in Lagos. why did you ask?

I think I have listed the things I need/want/I am using at the moment, etc, if not all. internet service, medication, upkeep, hospitals, doctors, surgery, Rsd/Crsp, charity org, funds, etc. Oh I need a helper/support worker/home nurse (although I am from a big family but a polygamous home, my baby brother is doing all the work, God bless him IJN, AMEN!).

I did state that NL can please do anything they can to help. Nothing is too small or too big. I thought all that was enough for whoever is responsible to choose from the list

Okay Let me email you. naijababe and Jay bee, Thank you and God bless you all
Re: Nairaland Charity Organisation- E-Helpers Network by Jarus(m): 2:04pm On Jan 13, 2012
Sorry, fellow e-Helpers, for reporting late. I have been following from sideline yesterday, quite busy.

I want to suggest as follows:

1, Although her case is beyond doubt genuine, we need to still fulfill our documented procedure of physical verification, which I think Ify has undertaken to help do, after strike. If we can get an Edo Nairalander it will be equally better

2, But pending verification, we shall swing into action immediately

3, We should offer 2 forms of assistance: Financial and Moral

FINANCIAL: clearly, footing the whole bill is beyond our capacity, so our financial assistance will be in form of palliatives. She says she needs about 10-15k per month for some drugs, if I get the earlier posts well. Let's take that one up. 15k times 6 months=90k, plus some other expenses, let's mark that up to 150k. I suggest we take 50k from our current purse(TeHN) and raise the remainign 100k for her thru a dedicated fund-raising thread, the way we did for the Obuhs.

MORAL: We will work on linking her up with NGO or Health Minister or even faciliate a publication of her case in newspapers and TV houses to seek wider attention and get sponsor/expert opinions on her trip abrod.

Let's be proactive. What do you guys think?

unless we plan to raise money 2ce?

We have an idea of the financial assistance we can render : N150k?

But we do not yet have an idea what the moral support will cost:

dhl
tv ads
newspaper ads
transportation
etc

Exactly. helping on a short term is good ideal, but that shouldn't be our goal line, like you rightly said helping in linking the case to a wider audience through other media should be our major priority for now.
