The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, led other top government functionaries to inspect several projects in Oredo Local Government Area (LGA).

Projects inspected include the reconstruction of Ekiosa Market, renovation/remodeling of the Edo State Board of Internal Revenue Service Building at Forestry Road, Edo Film Production Center and Printing Press at the Nigerian Observer Premises and renovation/construction of Aruogba Primary Healthcare Center.

He was accompanied by the Chairman of Oredo Local Government Area, Dr. Tom Obaseki and Special Adviser on Media Project, Crusoe Osagie, among others.

The governor who interacted with traders at Ekiosa Market and Mission Road, empathized with them over the hardship in the Country, reassuring on measures to ameliorate the suffering faced by the people.

He said, “I am anxious that this project at the Ekiosa Market starts immediately as the people who used to trade here are forced to trade at difficult situations because of the construction. We are working to build a modern market here that traders will enjoy and be happy about.

“In terms of the concept and design, we are trying to ensure that a lot of thinking goes into the design because the project will be used by thousands of people on a daily basis as we want to learn from other markets built over the years.

“We want to make sure there is enough space, ventilation, control and also amenities in the market. There is a lot of work but with the amount of work done to date, we will have a very successful project. Before the end of March, I expect the contractor to move to the site and begin the construction work.”

Speaking with traders at Ekiosa market and Mission Road, the governor stated, “There is hunger and suffering in the land. I saw it more than two years ago but those in charge failed to do what is necessary and today see where we are.

“I came to see the market we want to build and before the end of the month, contractors will come to site. I am also here to discuss with you to see how to come out of this problem as complaining about the issues will not solve the problem.

“Before the commencement of the rainy season, I want to give out money to support real farmers to ensure food sufficiency in the State which will eventually bring down the prices of food.

“We are doing our best in the State to ensure we make life better for our people and hope that those in Abuja will do what they ought to do to make life better for Nigerians.”

Reassuring efforts to ensure price stability in the State, Obaseki noted, “I will get the list of the companies and meet with those doing business with you and find out why their prices are going up. We will work with your association to know why prices are going up.

“I will ensure safety and security, and ensure we go back to the farm to grow more food for our people.”
