South African authorities arrest a Nigerian woman on suspicion of drugs trafficking and possession

In connection with drug-related offenses in the Brackendowns neighborhood of Alberton, a 39-year-old Nigerian lady was taken into custody by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department’s (JMPD) Tactical Response Unit.

The JMPD spokesperson, Superintendent Xolani Fihla, confirmed the woman’s arrest in a statement and stated that the woman’s husband is being sought after.

During an intelligence-driven operation in Eldorado Park on Saturday, April 6, 2024, officers learned vital information on a person who is active in drug distribution in the neighborhood. Additionally, a description of the drug-transporting vehicle was given,” the statement said. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
“Following up on this lead, the officers traced the suspect to a residence in Brackendowns, Alberton. On Sunday, April 7, 2024, while surveilling the residence, they observed a white Mercedes-Benz matching the provided description leaving the premises.
“The officers promptly intercepted the vehicle, which was driven by the female suspect. A thorough search revealed the presence of a narcotic known as Kat.
“When questioned about the illicit items, the suspect claimed that the vehicle belonged to her husband.
“A further search of the suspect’s house was conducted, and more narcotics were recovered.
“The narcotics with an estimated street value of approximately R 700 000.00 were seized by the police. Additionally, chemicals and equipment were found at the premises, indicating that the house could be a narcotics lab.
“Subsequently, the female suspect, identified as a Nigerian national, was taken into custody on charges of drug dealing and possession.
“She was detained at the Brackendowns South African Police Service (SAPS) station, where a case was opened for further investigation.
“The investigation remains ongoing, and efforts are underway to apprehend the main suspect, the woman’s husband who is still at large.
“The JMPD remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our community by combating drug-related criminal activities. We urge residents to report any suspicious behaviour or information to the authorities.”

We know drugs are expensive but the substances in those pictures can't be worth R700k. It's an exaggeration
