Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer will meet in the opening phase of the ATP World Tour Finals after both were drawn into Group B at the season-ending tournament on Tuesday.

Top-ranked Novak Djokovic, who is still recovering from an injured shoulder, and Andy Murray are in Group A for the tournament that starts Sunday at the O2 Arena in London.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Mardy Fish are also in Group B at the round-robin tournament for the top eight players in the world.

In Group A, Djokovic and Murray also will face David Ferrer and Tomas Berdych.

LONDON -- Roger Federer weathered a barrage of big hitting by Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France to begin his title defense with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 win Sunday in the opening match of the ATP World Tour Finals.

Rafa Nadal opened his account at the ATP World Tour Finals with a 6-2 3-6 7-6 defeat of American Mardy Fish in a late-night thriller at the O2 on Sunday to join great rival Roger Federer at the top of Group B.

Nadal will now face Federer on Tuesday in what will be their first clash in round-robin play.

LONDON -- David Ferrer pulled off the first upset of the ATP World Tour Finals with a 6-4, 7-5 victory Monday over Andy Murray, whose groin injury might force him to quit the season-ending tournament.

Roger Federer raced to one of his easiest wins over rival Rafael Nadal, routing the Spaniard 6-3, 6-0 Tuesday to ensure a semifinal berth at the ATP World Tour Finals.

From 3-2 in the first set, Federer ran away with it and not even Nadal's trademark defensive abilities could handle the pace and accuracy of the 16-time Grand Slam champion's forehand.

The 26th match between the former No. 1s was over in exactly one hour. Federer finished with 28 winners to Nadal's four.

With one match to play in Group B, Federer is assured of a place in the semifinals as he targets a record sixth title at the season-ending event.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga earlier kept alive his hopes of reaching the last four by beating Mardy Fish 7-6 (4), 6-1.

His body already aching after a season of almost unceasing success, Novak Djokovic ran into a brick wall in David Ferrer.

Ferrer's relentless hitting proved too much for Djokovic on Wednesday, giving the fifth-seeded Spaniard a 6-3, 6-1 win and a spot in the semifinals of the ATP World Tour Finals.

"I think today maybe was my best match of the season," Ferrer said.
