Jakande Estate residents decry epileptic power supply





Residents of Jakande Estate in Oke-Afa, Isolo, Lagos, have decried constant epileptic power supply in the neighbourhood.

Mr Yusuf Adeyemi, Chairman of the Estate Youths Parliament (EYP), said this in a meeting with the residents on Monday in Lagos.

Adeyemi lamented the poor power supply the residents were experiencing for the past one year.

He said that EYP had been engaging the management of Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC) on the state of its power supply to the estate and they kept saying that transmission was not supplying to them.

He said that IKEDC kept disrupting the supply the Estate got in spite being on Band B, even as the estate wasn’t still getting up to the minimum hours of light it was supposed to get in a day.

“Everybody in the estate is not happy with the erratic power supply.

“Considering the heat in the estate at this point in time, the night is usually not cozy,” he said.

He, therefore, appealed to IKEDC to up their game by increasing the number of hours that power is supplied the estate.

Mr Kayode Adeshina, 1st Vice-President of the Estate, said that the landlord association in conjunction with EYP, was trying the best it could to engage IKEDC on the number of hours of light supply.

He appealed that the estate should be placed on a band where there would be constant supply.

Mr Gbajumo Ibrahim, another resident, said that the light supply to the estate was not encouraging at all.

He said that one or two hours a day of light supply was not encouraging.

Mrs Funmilayo Olatona, also a resident of the estate, lamented that the mode of supply of light in the estate had affected residents more negatively than positively.

Olatona said that some residents depended on light to meet their daily bread but that these residents were always idle whenever there was no light, and that the cost of fuel was on the high side.

The residents appealed to IKEDC to increase the hours of supply to make up for the band slated for the estate.
