The major reason for this is proximity to where one is living. People usually choose schools close to where they are staying. I am not saying everyone but most people.
We all know a lot of people stay in Lagos because of their status over the years compared to other states so normally, the schools there or around it will get a lot of attention

Oga which education? Every tribe had some form of education before colonialisation. Igbos had the use of Nsibidi and other methods too. So this your comment no make sense.
Definitely, you're the one that's not making sense here. What is Education? According to you, there was no education before colonization era. But I disputed that fact, there was an education before colonization era, but not a formal education. What is formal education? Formal education is an organized and regulated system of education, which follows a curriculum and awards recognized academic certificates or degrees. This type of education is given in schools, colleges, official institutions and universities, either in person or through e-learning platforms. While Informal education refers to a lifelong learning process, whereby each individual acquires attitudes, values, skills and knowledge from the educational influences and resources in his or her own environment and from daily experience. This is the type of education our people receivd back then prior to colonization era. Recall the statement I highlighted from the comment you made previously, "EDUCATION" you didn't differentiate it for us to know the one you were talking about.

Unilorin has consistently maintained the first choice university in n Nigeria for over 4 years. Thanks for the leadership and academic standards envisioned and strictly started by Professor Oloyede back then. I see him as one of the greatest administrator in Nigeria.

Do you know what pre-colonial is? That is before colonialism so how on earth was there education before the colonials or no be colonials give una education? Again note that from 1937 till the civil war the east overtook the West in enrollment numbers. Don't talk about U.I because UI was a satellite campus of Univeristy college London as a matter of fact the first indigenous degree awarding institution was UNN.
here we go again grin i know you would here to make up lame excuse for your failure to level up. Please give us verifiable stats and not this your usual lies. Covenant university did not appear on the list, yet it is the best. This list makes no meaning.

Is it that you cannot comprehend what was written or what?
The post is not about Top 10 universities in Nigeria but about Top 10 universities applied for by UTME candidates in 2024.

By the way, how many parents can afford Covenant University's school fees?

Most UTME candidates will always apply for public universities.

Comprehension is really a big challenge for some of you people
The statistics is about number of UTME applicants.
This means that...more people will apply for a reasonably good but affordable schools.
How many Pipo can afford convenant university in today's Nigeria?? Ask yourself

It is not a list of the best schools, it is a list of the most selected schools. Don’t confuse the 2.

Even if 80% wanted to go to Covenant, less than 20% can afford to or qualify to.

Also, covenant doesn’t have as many faculties and courses as most of these universities that have been around for ever.

Most people brought up in Lagos can’t cope outside of Lagos. They feel that the rest of the country is a different world…they would rather stay there All their lives and then japa, than spend time in another state.

Exactly! Back in my day, A.B.U would definitely have been on the list, but with growing insecurity and religious intolerance , southerners are no longer as adventurous as we were back then.

Come guy did they raise with Zobo instead of breast milk because I don't seem to understand how warped your brain is. You guys took advantage of igbo trying to recover after the war to post stupid narrative of SW being ahead Prof Babatunde Fafunwa in his book the History of Education in Nigeria stated that the East actually overtook the West in education from 1937 till the outbreak of the civil war. The real intention behind free education by Awolowo in 1955 was to bridge the gap. Right many years after the civil war the igbo have actually caught up and superceded you guys again. Check the top states in Literacy level by statisense they are all south east and south south states. The below is an excerpt from Prof Babs Fafunwa's book that shows how the east overtook the West in enrollment numbers from 1937 till 1967(30 years)
