if ur 3gs is showing activation screen, u can either hacktivate it with redsnow or activate with the official sim its locked to

Jailbreaking is d process of removing apple's limitations on Apple idevices. Unlocking is d process of using an unofficial sim to make call on d iphone. If u can use ur local sim or any sim on d fone without using SAM unlock, then its factory unlock. If u av used SAM before, its tricky.
