At least six people have died from HIV after being told by evangelical pastors they were "cured" and could stop taking their medication, Sky News is reporting.

There is evidence churches in four of the UK's biggest cities, including London, are claiming to be able to cure HIV through God. Three Sky reporters went undercover to the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), based in Southwark, South London, and told pastors they were HIV positive.

All three were told they could be "healed". According to the reports, once a month the church holds a "prayer line" where people from across Europe congregate to be cured of their illnesses. At a registration session, the sick have to hand over a doctor's etter as "evidence" to prove they are ill.

They are then "healed" by pastors shouting for the devil to leave their body while spraying water at the "patient".

One pastor, Rachel Holmes, allegedly told a reporter the church has a 100% success rate.

"We have many people that contract HIV. All are healed."

Patients are told if symptoms synonymous with the disease persist it is actually a sign of the virus leaving the body.

"We've had people coming back saying they are not healed. I have to stop them and say 'No please, you are free."

The "healed" patients are then told they are free to start a family.

Recently, Sky News came uninvited to SCOAN London. Their approach was not polite. Their actions were recorded by The Synagogue and by their own camera man.

Below is our response to their queries. This is what we believe:

“We are not the Healer; God is the Healer. Never a sickness God cannot heal. Never a disease God cannot cure. Never a burden God cannot bear. Never a problem God cannot solve. To His power, nothing is impossible. We have not done anything to bring about healing, deliverance or prosperity. If somebody is healed, it is God who heals.

“We must have a genuine desire if we come to God. We are not in position to question anybody’s genuine desire. Only God knows if one comes with true desire. Only God can determine this. That is why, if anybody comes in the name of God, we pray for them. The outcome of the prayer will determine if they come genuinely or not.

“When we are healed, we are healed for a relationship with Jesus forever. Christianity is a relationship. When the relationship is broken, the blessing is lost.

“We don’t ask people to stop taking medication. Doctors treat; God heals. Medical doctors do their work, just as ministers of God do. We sent a team of doctors, nurses and counsellors to help after the earthquake in Haiti, as well as to many other troubled nations, as you can see from our full documentary on Emmanuel TV (www.emmanuel.tv). You will see the regard we have for medical doctors; I mean, the power of nature. There is nothing bad in using medication. It was the same medication that sustained these people before they came to the church. However, they believed that God is the God of nature.”

The undoing of a lot of these scammers would be their foray into the UK.
Unlike Nigeria and the U.S where just about anything goes in the name of religion, there is a hard-limit to obeisance in the U.K

Scammers like this are pretty much fair game now, judging by the number of TV documentaries/exposé we have seen in recent times.
