The Anambra state commissioner of police, Mr. Oliver Osuchukwu, at the weekend disclosed to newsmen that six armed robbers were killed at various locations while nine were arrested and paraded at the command's headquarters same day.

The items recovered from them which were displayed included one bullet proof jacket, four automatic riffles, two shot guns, three double barrel guns, 269 live ammunition, eight vehicles including cars and buses, house breaking instruments including one Monday hammer, one axe and three crow bars.

He said those arrested were Chigozie Uyamdu, Anthony Nweke, Charles Ehetuga - all from Nzugbe town; Obinna Igwe and Chukamlete Ibeanusi. Others were Jideofor Ezeobi, Isiato Nwankwo and Ogenna Akpagu - all from Isiagu village, Nise in Awka South LGA.

It would be recalled that on 15th September 2007, Inland Police Station headed by Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Ntomchukwu C. N. had and encounter with two notorious robbers operating along Awka with motorcycles. The gunmen were engaged in a gun battle. During the exchange of fire one died while one escaped on the motorcycle.

He also disclosed the arrest of two suspected rapists in the case of defilement which police said resulted in the death of an eleven year-old girl in Awkuzu Oyi local government area of Anambra state. Although he did not give details of the incident, he added that the matter was reported on 16 September 2007, and he paraded the suspects before the press.

Command Headquarters, Amawbia, the State Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr. Osuchukwu, described the actions of the suspects, Dominic Mbam , 45, and Sunday Mbam, 40, as vicious.

Master Chiemerie Ananti, a seven-year-old witness, said the suspects invited him and the deceased to take sweets but they refused, informing them they were going on an errand for their father, Evangelist Michael Ananti. Chiemerie said the suspects began to chase them and caught up with the deceased and dragged her into a nearby bush while he wailed, calling on them to release his sister. He said when they continued to drag her along, he ran home to alert his parents.

Evang. Ananti in his statement said that when he received the news, he called out neighbours who organized a search in the said bush where they picked up the corpse.

Another ploy to satisfy your daily anti Igbo addictions, I see Mrs Pilas.

I see its much more than a dislike, its actually an Igbo obsession you have.

You become more an more like an adolescent every day.
