you are right about ONE thing: the trend came from Prison but it had very little (if anything) to do with homosexuality.
the reason was that:

A) back in the days (60s/70s) when prisoners had trousers/t.shirts, they used their belts as weapons, so the prison system decided to remove belts from the prison uniform and thus most prisoners had their trousers sagging. . . . .  which became a way of life in jails and thus when these cons got out, it became some kind of "ex con status" to have sagging pants. so a gang member fresh out of jail would have easily been recognized via his sagging pants (also known as JAILIN). then every punk in the street decided that they wanted to look ROUGH, and started sagging even if they never set a foot in jail, the trend caught on, et voila!!!

even till this day, if you get arrested, you will have your belt/shoe laces removed so that you dont try anything funny (hang yourself etc) and your pants will sag heavily.

B) other would say that the sagging only started in the early 90s and is due to the orange uniform given to inmate when they got incarcerated. when a person goes to jail, he is given the uniform but, because of the drastic diet change, most inmate loose weight, and therefore their uniform automatically sag. the trend caught on in the street for the exact same reason as the one i gave above, et voila!

although "some" claim it was a sign for g[b]a[/b]y activities, i doubt anyone who was a biatch in Jail would gladly flaunt that fact when they got out, or that anyone would be silly enough to follow that trend outside, for such controversial reason. . . . . . .  especially in the very MACHO black/latino community, who started this trend!

Whatever its source or origin; let us agree that it is extremely stupid and irresponsible to display your underwear in public!
